I have got one of these, the dealer I bought the car from ordered it and paid for it for me asI'd only had the car 3 weeks when the battery started to fail.4zwmb wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 10:26 amCan you tell me which battery are you buying? I have decided upon an exide battery since this is the only battery that I found in my country with the nearest specs.Gaffa22 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 10:13 am You certainly don’t need to use the exact same battery as the original if you can register and code the new battery with Carly.
I am replacing the original 70ah 760cc with a 75ah 780cc which has a 5 year guarantee. It is the same physical size as the original though.

Thanks Gaffa22 for all the information! I had a look at your battery too, its a battery for start-stop function. I take it that you z4 came with start-stop function then, right?

No I don't have start stop, BMW fit a an AGM stop start battery as standard, presumably because of all the electronics, particularly the roof.

I see, well yes, that could be a very valid reason although the price for a start-stop battery is considerably higher than a normal starter AGM battery. I had a good look at the Carly product this evening, its seems very interesting. One thing it should have included is the ability to code our E-brake when it faults. Mine did it and a lot of other owners had the same problem, you can have a look in this forum. If Carly would have been able to reset the E-brake, it would have been golden for me. That said, I still think its good for our z4s.

Talking to one of my customers and club member he specialises in building industrial and fork lift batteries, etc.
I mentioned to him about coding car batteries.
He said you should code, because different makes have different size plates inside, cheaper batteries have thinner plates that may not be able to take the charge rate of a more up market battery.
If replace like for like probably ok, but different brand may need recoding.

???? But coding has nothing to do with brand?
It’s only to do with ampage and power output regardless of who makes the battery? Coding/registration doesn’t know how big the plates are, it just needs to know the battery output so that it can input the correct levels/rates of charge.
I’m installing an 80Ah / 800 amp battery tomorrow afternoon.
It’s around 4cm longer than the standard one, but there is a separate mount securing point for it so I thought I would give it a go. I have Carly so will code the car for the upgraded ampage/CCA myself.
Note- just today, Carly have updated the battery registration module to make it even simpler to use. They have also added functionality to set the electronic parking brake position.....

Registration is also so the system knows the age of the battery, as it will charge a new battery differently to an old one.Kugaman1 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2018 9:36 pm???? But coding has nothing to do with brand?

Is the parking brake position a recent Carly update ?
