i think this is the current limit of what's possible. Hp4 carbon. Powerful plus light. Perhaps too light?
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

you do have to hang on, it'll do 0-60 in around 3 secs but you struggle to keep the front wheel on the deck

These days I start to panick if the needle goes much over 80, not because of the speed but for the fear of big brother watching from on high.
I was out of luck one day with the "chances of getting caught in the 80's" comment - back in 1987 I maxed out my Golf GTI on the M5 going to a party which I was late for - think the speedo went to 130 on the Mk2 but could be wrong, anyway it was up against the stop and when I checked my mirror I noticed a car was gaining on me but some way back. I slowed down to 70'ish just in case it was Mr.Plod and it was. He pulled me over and showed me his stop watch with a calibration certificate from a Jewelers in Tewkesbury - he then explained that they had timed me between two bridges and what that time was..then translated it to MPH which came through at 98.7...whew! Losing my license would have meant the job going too (and the car!) and instead I got three points and a £45 fine. Lesson learned though could have been a lot worse.

So you did! Good car the GTI for 12 months during which I did 55k miles and then it fell apart...not what I expected from German engineering, even that from the 1980's!

I managed 3000 Miles to the Spanish border and back this summer in mine. Superb car for summer cruising down to the beaches of southern France.

On my runs down thro the Netherlands and on to south west Germany plus running around while there in the hilly / alpine type of the area, I get 30 :32 mpg which I think is superb. My speed is sensible / law abiding thro the Netherlands motorway system then 80/90 on the German Autobahn and 120 /130 when allowed and Mrs K didn’t squeal too much! All top down as well

All in all I would say good mpg for such a car.

I should say tho that I did not buy the car for economy reasons. Hence a 35is and not a 1.8

I did get over 30mpg when I drove the Zed back from Manchester, but was stuck in traffic for quite bit

HillWalker wrote: Fri Dec 08, 2017 6:46 pm It certainly makes a great motorway mile muncher especially with the N54 engine, just a shame about the pathetic 70 limit and the fact the motorways are so chock a block with traffic. Just imagine how quick you could get from A to B with no limits and no traffic, now that sounds like fun :driving:
With no speed limit 90% of people would never get there!!
Probably more than 90%
