With Fathers Day and my birthday looming, my family are asking for gift suggestions.
Have wanted a Dashcam for sometime but not found much on E89 installs although there is a fair bit of info over in the E85 forum.

Critreia is it must be small like the 0806 and clones and would like to install with minimal wiring on show. Hate cables/wires on show.

Anyone here have any pics of their install?
Guess hardwiring into the courtesy light is an option? How easy to access?
Other small camera suggestions. Doesn't need to have a screen if Smartphone apps available.

TIA

Number5 has done a good write up and pics of an install but it is is for the E85 . Have a look , it may suit the E89 as well

I have done a few in VWs and BMWs now, I always go down behind the mirror via the A pillar to the fuse box and find a non used one - use a piggy back one which you just plug in and you have no wiring to solder or anything.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

Obviously, flimper spec cars are great as their fuse boxes tend to be empty ....

This is pretty easy to do and is how I installed my Blackvue DR650GW.
Below is a recent encounter with police radar.

+1 for Blackvue, we have had a DR600GW installed for the last couple of years, hard wired into the switched live in the center console. Work's perfectly and you can't really even see it tucked behind the rear view mirror.

The WiFi connect for downloading clips from their App works well, but it does take a while to transfer the HD video clips and you need to know the timestamp of which ones you want to review. You can of course just take the SD card out and view the recordings directly though.

I went for a Mobius camera, they are built for RC cars and are small, discreet, cheap, and auto stop start. Have great specs and are really discreet. It suppports big memory cards and records in every format you would want, from 1080p to time lapse.

Here's a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wmIyD1fM4M

Here's a capture from mine recording at 720p, then sped up https://youtu.be/OO672PnjpH0?t=1254.

You can buy them from amazon for about £55. Absolute bargain compared to the "proper" dashcams, and way more powerful / flexible.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Dash cams were always a big topic of conversation on the previous BMW Forum I was a member of. There were plenty of examples of installs and footage etc...

It was always the Mobius and Blackvue that seemed to be people's favourites. The mobius has far better video quality but lacks the app and wifi features.

I'd love to see people's installs in the E89. With my birthday also coming up I'm looking to finally make the purchase, mine will be the blackvue.

The only issue that seemed to crop up regularly was hard wiring and getting a low voltage warning. I presume this would also be an issue with the E Series?

I put one in, shortly after parents were hit head on by a driver that fell asleep. Would've helped the police accident investigation.
Put in the e85 first, and it's now in the e89.
I researched a few opinions in various motor mags, and opted for
Transcend driver pro 200. Bout £80 a year ago. Has the app to transfer to phone, but not yet used it.
Wire just slips in behind windscreen along the top, and down passenger side, underneath glove box, and straight into lighter socket.
Now: Jaguar XF R Sport red/black leather and soooo many new toys
Gone  sdrive 30i, silver, black leather, 19" wheels
Gone  2.0i sport. Black. Black Piano trim. Black Leather.

Hi,

I went for the thinkware, with rear view camera

Has good quality images, Speed camera notification, and collision warning system.

Had a few issues with finding a position for the rear view camera and believe this is the best compromise.
Wired it up to the fuse box, and pushed all cables between the windscreen and pillars - so most cables are hidden.
Upgraded to 128Gb Memory card so get over 8 hours of driving been recorded
Love your setup, would never have thought about placing a rear camera there, you have probably persuaded me now to a two camera system, the DR650 2CH I should imagine.

Do you have any type of parking mode enabled or motion detection for when parked? Any low voltage warnings? Did you shorten the cable for the rear camera with cutting it or just hidden the excess somewhere?

Raesy.
