Brake Service Reset

Post by philip27 » Tue Jul 19, 2016 5:15 pm

Has anyone been able to reset the Brake Service counter on an e89 ?

I had new discs and pads on the rear no wear sensor light is on but the car says it needs a brake service in 310 miles and I cant get it to reset following the standard hold the odometer button then reset using the BC button.

Getting a bit sick of the car telling me it needs doing when it has brand new disc and pads on. The wear sensor has also been replaced.

Brake Service Reset

Funny enough that is what the Indy said.
So I gave him a tenner!

I had tried some software through the OBD port, but nothing seemed to work.
They used a quite popular re-setting tool I have seen on the internet, but can't remember the brand.

I have since left the brake sensors tied back from the callipers.

Did any of you get a proper answer on how to reset the indicator?
I have just done the front pads on the X6 and after googling how to reset it I found it is done using the odometer reset button.
This is pressed and held in until the service lights come on on the dash, you then press the same button until the item you are wanting to reset appears and then press and hold the button again. This reset the mileage to 43000.
After doing this I went into the idrive and after cycling through to the front brakes it showed there that it had updated.
It worked on the X6, maybe it is the same on the Z4.
The BC button is not used.

if you have iDrive, you can reset it in the menu

I have reset brake in the past using the stalk, but if you let the mileage get too low on the brakes, it won't reset.
In future I would as soon as you get the brake warning, replace the sensor, reset and tie up the sensor until you can replace the pads.

Had this when we did a friends brakes on an E90.

You have to keep your foot on the brake pedal, or is it off the brake pedal, one of the two, but its not mentioned in the instructions!
