DAB Upgrade

Post by V8 Animal » Sat Dec 31, 2016 4:57 pm

I asked Stratstone today if they could upgrade my system to DAB
They said they could but it's not very good so don't reccomend.
So what alternatives are there?
I currently use a app and BT the station over on my phone but would like a proper system.
Thanks

Happy New Year all!!

Not been impressed with DAB in our other BMs. Signal can be poor in built up areas and you loose reception.

Have it in the brand new mini and love it.

I'm guessing it will be a similar system as a lot of the bmw family stuff is shared.

Have it in mine and it's great! For some reason London buses block the signal!

I went for an aftermarket Head Unit and the Dab works great. HU fits in well with the dashboard, just requires an antenna fitted on the windscreen but not very noticeable.

I have it in mine and yes it does lose reception in built up areas sometimes but I also have DAB in my van and my other car (not aftermarket units ) and they do the same and in some rural locations no signal at all so maybe it's just a dab thing. When it works though it is great
BMW E89 3.5i M Sport manual, loving it….
Audi S5 Cab, Great car but not special enough….
BMW E89 3.5i DCT, Havana Brown, should never have sold it…..
BMW E85 3.0 Auto, sadly missed (twice)

I'm not going to the trouble of replacing the headset.
So I guess there's no solution.

Afraid not, DAB is the biggest radio failure and will shortly be superseded to internet radio anyway. It has been useless in my BMWs and also the Porsche, so it is not a BMW failure issue - it just does not work. If I take the M23 / M25 / M4 - I lose all the stations all the time, and when in France - it does not pick up a single DAB station. I just leave it on FM mode now.

For the UK, the Spotify Radio works fine in the cars so I use that instead as my 3/4G reception is better than DAB.

Used to live in the Sticks in Cumbria and have it in the 64 Mini Cooper S and its great. You get no normal signal up there and works flawlessly absolutely love it. So much better than the standard radio... Maybe just me.

I use the Union Jack app radio station I guess that's internet radio hadn't thought of it like that.
My other 3 cars have DAB and the reception is very good on the whole, Peak District is awful though.

I had it my mini and a 4 series hire car. Worked great in both cars and really miss it. It will be a must for next car unless there is an internet radio option.
