35IS MPG Figures?

Post by sunnydays » Sat Jan 07, 2017 1:42 pm

Hey all, quick question regarding MPG on these cars,

My 2010 35IS is currently averaging 15MPG, is this figure about where this car should be? This car is not really taken on the motorway and is not my daily driver either.

Fuel is always V Power Nitro + 99. Just wanted to make sure these figures lined up with everyone elses and are 'normal'

Thanks all

Mmmmm, that seems pretty low! I used V Power as well and this was my daily driver which was about 22 miles a day half motorway half in 30-50 mph areas. Think I averaged around the mid 20s for mpg but it really depended on driving style. Fun time flooring the pedal did definitely drop that fuel gauge rather quick.

15 mpg seems too low!

Cheers :D

That sounds a bit low to me. Unless you are driving spiritedly everywhere (or all your mileage is urban) I would expect an average in the high 20's-low 30's.
I have a 35i (same engine, lower level of tune) and mine averages approx. 29 mpg over a mix of urban, A roads and motorway.
Cheers, Dave

Mine used to do 25mpg on the daily commute and would easily do 40 mpg on a run.....

I think you might have something wrong with it,leaking injectors are common...

That does sound low. Mine also is not a daily and is driven around the Peak District so lots of up hill and down dale, even spirited it hovers around 24mpg. I'd be a bit alarmed at 15mpg tbh. Is your right boot particularly heavy?

Hmm I wouldnt have thought so, maybe its just because alot of the time it can be stop and start driving in the city? Driving it very very carefully i can get it to just over 20mpg

I can't comment on town driving as I don't use mine in town. Still sounds too low though, as Z4M-2006 says maybe you need to get it checked for leaks, although I would have thought you'd smell it under the bonnet. Strange one, could you pop a plug out and see if it's black with carbon?

As others have stated this is entirely dependent on drIving style, length of journey, traffic, average speeds, temperature and more.

I get 18mpg driving to and from work, short journey, cold engine, stop start traffic . On the motorway I average 35 and have managed over 40 being careful.

I'm averaging around 24 at the moment. It's not a DD and I'm doing mainly A roads with few traffic lights, with the average trip is just over 10 miles or so to the nearest town.

I should add that I've just had the injector failure repaired :D so I'm waiting to see how the ECU relearns the setup and whether that makes a difference to my MPG. And 24 isn't pitiful considering my combined was about 30 in my 23i when it was my DD and lots of stop start traffic.

If it's mostly city driving with lots of start stops then it's entirely normal.

15mpg isn't normal at all..

My daily commute is nearly 7 miles of stop start traffic, from cold and mainly going uphill and my 35is easily managed early 20's in that condition... on the home run with it being downhill and traffic flowing better than usually averaged out at 24ish..

15mpg is horrendous, my 470 bhp supercharged Jag was better than that on the daily commute

That's not right. I was getting more than that when I was out trashing it. Normal driving I was averaging about 25/27 mpg I would get that checked out.

Another 35i owner here.

25k miles on the clock overall MPG shows 24.

Mine is mainly town running with occasional long journey.

I use a mixture of fuels Shell, Esso, Tesco, and BP once, every third fill is Premium Fuel.

never seen 30mpg unless im going downhill with the engine off :p mine is currently on 17.7mpg average. Driving like a saint i think I got nearly 430miles from a tank which equates to about 26-27mpg.

I didn't buy the car for it's fuel efficiency :p
