If you work backwards & apply some logic the answers are there , many 18 inch OEM alloys do suffer from cracks but when considered with the sheer volume of wheels on BMW cars its minimal so most likely a simple case of hitting big holes or debris & not a cheaply manufactured wheelBusterboo wrote:Not logical.Smartbear wrote: Change the runflats tyres or it will happen again!

Yes, runflats are horrible, but they don't crack alloys. If they did, they'd crack 18"s as well as 19"s, but they don't.
The villains of the piece are BMW 19"s.
Bmw then start to introduce 19s to the E90s which ran the same tyre sizes as E89s / the wheels were known as MV4s & have as bad a rep for cracks as 296s if not worse
Then move to the E89 model which i believe has only the choice of 296 or 326 as 19s ?
Do you believe BMW suddenly started making their alloys cheaper or is it more likely to be the rubber ? Not only the type of rubber ( runflats having almost solid sidewalls ) but the actual sizes you only need glance at a rear 296/326 9j rim with a 255 30 19 tyre & it looks woefully undersized ( to me anyway )
The other 19s BMW run on X5s , 5series ,X6s don't run a rear 30 profile tyre so most likely have less problem with splits
That's how i read it
