Just a quick question : Do Sdrive35i cars burn oil and if so how much? What do you keep to top up with? I've always used Castrol Edge. I understand its 5W 40 for the 35i.
My car was bought Approved Used and was given a major service before I collected it 3 weeks ago so should be OK for a while..... I hope!
Thanks,
Ian.

Ian, I think you may get some variation here but I checked the oil level on my 35i at about 7500 miles and it showed just over 2/3 full. This'll be fine until the service date which was a month further on - not burning much I thought.
A week later I was out for the day and the warning triangle appeared in the display - "Oil". Interrogation said "Add 1 Litre".
So I guess my answer is I used a litre in around 7500 miles. This was a new car. I also learned not to put too much faith in the accuracy of the gauge and to have a litre of oil in the boot at 7500 mile multiples. Proper spec oil from a dealer is only £14 / litre so no great shakes. OK for topping up but maybe a bit pricey for a complete oil change - at least you know it's the right stuff with the important BMW LL bit in it.
If you have their 5 year service plan they'll do it free of charge. If you want to do it yourself (even if you have the plan) you have to buy the oil.
Enjoy the car.

Did the dealer tell you what they done for the major service?
Servicing is condition based and the car decides when it needs to be serviced, I doubt if a dealer would have done a major service needlessly unless of course it happened to be due at the time they were selling.

The service was due in 3 months so they did it. I will check the book when back home but it now says not due until Jan 2019 or 18000 miles on the display.
I will get some oil from the dealer for topping up.
