Hi chaps. Reading what you guys are saying, you recommend the Carly Pro app for our cars. I was just about to pay to download the pro app but it then talks about having to pay extras once you have the app, for things like battery coding etc. Is this correct ??

Best regards
Mike :)

Yes,
You need the approved blue tooth adapter
but there are a few extra ad-dons

But as standard it is a great tool.

Works out quite expensive once you buy all the addons and adapter.

If you have a laptop and are technically literate I would recommend getting hold of a proper coding setup with ISTA, INPA and NCSExpert. Works out so much cheaper than Carly and so much more powerful.

Definite CarlyPro advocate here.
I've found it very useful for diagnostics/fault clearing, coding a few things and possibly more importantly - live-monitoring of certain engine parameters. The app will log everything and you can email a copy to yourself for analysis later. Helped me solve a fluctuating temperature problem just after I bought mine.

Customer support is second-to-none aswell having received in-depth replies to tech questions immediately on a Sunday!!

Plus, it's universal accross the BMW model range so if you have another bimmer as I do you can also use it on other cars too.
Thumbs up from me.

Depends on what you want it for. I originally bought the app and the BT adaptor, for I think around £70 all in. Used it to code the car and clear a couple of faults. However, it refused to clear an airbag fault caused when I replaced the window cable. Kept saying it had, but hadn't. So in the end I took the plunge for a B-Cables setup with software, that I installed on my Toughbook, cost £29. Includes INPA, ISTA, NCS Expert etc.

This has allowed me to clear the airbag code, and also diagnose whether or not my RLS (rain/light sensor) was faulty or not, it wasn't - just needed fixing to the screen properly.

Carly is handy, as I keep it in the car, and obviously always have my phone with me, but for more in depth stuff, if you already have a laptop then the B-Cables setup covers pretty much everything, but is a bit of a learning curve.

Completely agree, however the reason I went for Carly was based on my car coming up with an warning light when I was 100 miles from home.

And my laptop was not with me, as I keep my Carly in the car all the time.

The value of having this tool with me - is worth the cost.

Mike
Are you near anyone who has a Carly? I have one and I'm in Worcestershire and work in Birmingham. Then while you might have to pay for the extra battery bit you wouldn't have to pay for Carly if you don't want it long term

I've used it to code and my hubby has an aging Bmw. It has helped him id faults and saved expensive trips to the garage when he could sort the problem himself.

That's a good idea, just pay someone who already has it a fiver for the battery coding feature!

May help to post where you are.

Thanks guys. I'm in swansea :) am I right in saying then that the in app purchases are one offs ? Ie if I pay the £10 for the battery coding part then everytime after the battery coding is free ?? Or would I need to pay that £10 each time I want to code another battery ??

Yup, one off purchase, for some reason I thought it was £5?

Ah that's not so bad, I thought for a moment that it was a case of you having to pay extra each time I wanted to say, code the battery :)
Loving the forum, thank you chaps

Yup, just checked it is a one off fee for the battery coding, catalyst regeneration, DPD regeneration and service resets.

Sorry for my ignorance but I have just changed from an E85 to a 2016 E89 and have a few features I would like to program.
I was considering Carly but haven't got round to it yet then I saw mention of the B-Cables solution.
Looking on the B-Cables website under the car compatibility tab, there is no mention of it supporting any E89 models.
I'm guessing I would need the silver D-CAN cable but is this going to work with a 2016 E89?
Thanks for your help.

the silver d-can from here works with carly and more importantly mhd if you want to tune your car:

I wasted money on cheaper cables with intermittent results, im sure cheaper ones will work just as well but i found quite the opposite in my testing :)
