Good morning chaps
I'm looking to change the professional head unit in my 2009 35i for an after market modern unit. My question is, does the car have an separate amp or is it inside the head unit ?

Have a good day chaps
Mike :D

Depends what options you have! I believe there are 3 options...

1. 6 speakers with no amp
2. 11 speakers with an amp
3. 14 speakers with an amp

Firstly, are the 2 big round speakers behind each seat?

If yes you have option 3, if no then check to see if you have tweeters in the door pods by the door mirrors. If yes then you have option 2, if no then you have option 1.

Hope that's correct and is of use!

This cant be right. Ours is the 11 speaker setup and has large speakers behind the seats.

Thank you Steve, I know I have speakers in the kick panels, the doors and small ones in the pillars but I haven't looked behind the seats yet ! I will look later. Out of curiosity if the car does have a separate amp any idea where it's located ?

Put the last 7 digits of your vin into the BMW Bin decoder, and it will tell you exactly what system & speakers you have.

The speaker setup I have is also of interest to me. I used the vin decoder, bmwvin, and it only states that I have the professional radio part number s663. Am I missing a trick here?

The big round speakers (subs) behind each seat are the give away and you cannot miss them, I think that if you are looking to upgrade your sound system then it means that you got the cr***y 6 speakers system (Blue inthe diagram below)

Is there definately a speaker behind 9 and 10 or is it just a grill?
