DAB retrofit?

Post by lordgrover » Wed Mar 15, 2017 5:44 pm

Is it possible to retrofit DAB to my 2010 E89?
If so, will it talk to iDrive or would it be a half-arsed bodge?

DAB retrofit?

Personally, i think DAB is a dying platform
Internet streaming is the way ahead. Thousands of stations
I use DAB while at work but its patchy at best, stations not covered in certain areas
In my car i use the Tune in radio app bluetoothed to the iDrive, it get all same DAB stations and more

Still mulling this over.
Think I'll go for the Kinetic Digitizor though: CLICK and the DRA-6001 aerial: CLICK.

DAB retrofit?

Mine is fitted with DAB but I gave up trying to use it. The damn thing cuts out every 10 secs and the screen displays "No Signal". Took it into the dealers and the service manager said "If you want to use DAB then park in your driveway in a position where you get a signal and then don't move". Save your money IMHO its next to useless.

I think you need a special aerial that's fitted to a window for after market DAB and its pants a lot of the time.

DAB retrofit?

The retrofitted DAB in both my e34 M5 and Alfa 147 works perfectly (up & down the M6, M40, M25, M4, M5, M42).

Not found a system I'm happy with for the Z4M though - as I don't want a windscreen aerial or 'add-on' box on the dash for control/display.

Kenwood sticky aerial is pretty unobtrusive

Denison make a dab radio that will plug into the usb port in the arm rest.displays the stations as mp3 files. It can be hidden away but does need an arial on the windscreen. About £150

I've had a stick-on windscreen aerial in my last car - it was a bit rubbish.
I switched to a proper antenna and it worked perfectly.
