19" run flats going in the bin - what's the best replacements?
Ok so my current 19" run flats are coming to the end of their life,
My thoughts on ditching the run flats is two fold
1) they are rather firm with m sport suspension
2) they cost stupid money
I'm in the camp that really couldn't give a monkies what brand my tyres are and find spending money on tyres frankly dull,
as I could think of a million things I'd rather buy than tyres.
What are people's thoughts on what to replace them with?
Are blackcircles any good? What's the best source to replace? ( I say best I mean cheapest)
I've seen these rim protector tyres, any good?

I'd rather stick my Harris through a glory hole not knowing if it was a boy, girl, or zoo residents on the other side than get into this topic...

Tyres are the only thing connecting your car to the surface of the planet.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

No disrespect mate, but why/how/pourquoi/porque would you put cheap tyres on a performance car ??!!! You will loose something like 50% of the fun - if not more. Might as well buy a MICRA.henryjames wrote:Ok so my current 19" run flats are coming to the end of their life,

I wouldn't give a monkey about tyres if I had an old Volvo but in a Z4 if you get the wrong tyres you will regret it big time.
on the budget side the Kumhos and Uniroyals have got good reviews, I have never tried them personally as my favourites are the GY F1s and that is what I will always buy for a performance car.

You want to save money on tyres? Go to 18" wheels and put your 19"s in the bin.
Before you do, though, check the inside rims for cracks. You don't want some poor guy pinching 'em and putting cheap tyres on 'em, do you?

Khumo Ecsta Le Sports are a good shout, I ran a set on my 645ci - they were fairly decent and if you aren't interested in "wasting money on tyres" then they will do you well enough. All the Internet hype is a bit much though, the car never felt fully settled on them and cornering performance wasn't much better than the cheap tyres they replaced.
I went all out on my Z4 and recently put Continental Sport Contact 6's all round to replace worn Pzero run flats - best money I have ever spent on the car. Absolutely stunning performance , even remapped in anything other than cold damp weather it can pull away cleanly with not a hint of wheel spin. I didn't pay the earth either, £650ish for a set.

It sounds to me that to you a car is just a car and just a necessity that's needed to get around.
It begs the question why you bought a Z4 though if you are not bothered whether it handles well or not.
You could have bought something far cheaper that would do the same job.
Think on when it comes time to sell, will buyers think you have skimped on the car if they look at the cheapo tyres?
I had cheap cheap tyres on an old car once and would NEVER do it again. I was able to slide the front end on roundabouts at will with hardly any effort and at fairly slow speeds in the dry, glad I never really needed them to work in an emergency.
You can get a good set of tyres for between £400-£500 and not only will these give you a decent ride they will last longer than ditchfinders which means you will not have to go through the dull experience of buying tyres more often.

Where are you based OP? As if you were in Essex, I'd send you to the guy I use. Same tyres as BC, but he under cut and has hunter alignment system.
Had GY eagle AS2's on my E85, and was REALLY pleased with them.
May do the same on E89 late spring.
