Run Flats Gone At Last

Post by kinger » Tue Apr 11, 2017 3:58 pm

I was out last week on the A303 when my car decided to shake really badly, the vibrations were coming from everywhere, so bad that the roof started to rattle so i pulled off and went into the New Forest , looked at a couple of cars and worked my way home through the B roads.
Once the car was on a ramp it was easy to see the problem...the rear offside had a nail in it and was doing a good impression of the new £1 coin...and a huge bulge.
the N/S was due for changing too and at the prices being quoted to replace them it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get rid and have some normal rubber it
So this morning i am £500 lighter but i have a huge smile.
I had a set of Kuhmo Ecsta PS91's in 225/40/19 fronts and 255/35/19 rears
Wow....what a difference the car is so much quieter, lighter, more responsive and smoother than a smooth thing covered in smooth sauce
I was noticable just backing out of the tyre bay and i took it for a great run....totally different car and better in all ways....

The solution...

i had 2 Bridgestone Protenza runflats to sell that came of the front, they have only done 1500 miles, so ebay should bring me some money back hopefull to nearer £350 to change

See you decided to go a sidewall size up?
Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better

Perfect combo & only plus points from doing so although if you were on MSport springs the 40 fronts may be a tad too much ?

i bought them from a local dealer, he just price matched My Tyres website but they were offering the older pattern tyres, he gave me the latest version at the same price, i was a little reluctant to change from runflats..but today i saw the car in a whole new light...you dont realise how much they spoil the whole experience until you bin them

Looking to get rid of my run flat soon too! Will be going for Goodyear Eagle F1's, 235/35 front and 255/35 rear. Am on msport suspension and may also go for eibach springs. :D

I think Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 would be my choice for similar price. I will be doing the same next puncture or wear out.

The only problem is that the Dealer doesn't like non runflats at trade in time.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I always sell privately, i dont like to let a dealer take the money that should be in my pocket....

I pulled the RFT's and wheels last month after riding on them for 4 mos. If the MPSS tires hadn't been on backorder till 3/6/2017, it would've been 1 month. So now I get to ride the length of my lease on VMR 19" wheels and MPSS tires. When I turn the lease in, I will give them back the stock wheels with their brand new, original RFT's on them and sell the wheels. After all is said and done, it will have cost me the same amount of money as suffering for 3 years with RFT's and having to buy a new set before turning it in. Bonus is that I have four replacement wheels with perfect tires on them should I need to limp around on one or two of them in the case of catastrophic damage to any of my VMR's.
