Finally found my car :)

Post by Harvey669 » Sun May 07, 2017 7:22 pm

Well after months of searching went to view a local car today and after a lengthy chat and viewing ... deposit paid. Pick here up later in the week, over the moon. Pictures to follow however she's a mint, low mileage 2.3i in black with the pure design leather package (think that's what it's callled).

Plan on adding a few subtle mods and perhaps you fine folk could assist with the following...

1. Would like a smaller aerial without comprising reception?

2. Would like to make the 2.3i sound a bit better? Anyone added an exhaust to theirs?

Cheers

Kris

Well done Harvey, pics are obligatory upon collection please...

Get a stubby from the stealers, cheap as chips for the job it does and zero compromise on reception, I speak from experience. Can't help on the exhaust I'm afraid, there are a few clips on YouTube worth checking out though.

Hope the car is all you want it to be.

Nice work, I was so excited when I was waiting to collect my e85.

1. I'd reccomend a Peugeot stubby:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/?iid=261351496 ... 816&chn=ps.

I have one of these on my e85 and don't lose signal any more than I did, (not a fan of the BMW head units) got one for my dad at Christmas for his e89 and he loves it too. Matches the base perfectly.

2. Ducklakeview (Mike) on here offers back box modification, he's got great feedback and it's meant to bring the exhaust alive. I'm looking at getting my backbox removed and possibly having a small sports muffler put in its place if it's too loud at a custom exhaust shop in Hastings. As the 23i is the same engine it would sound similar i'd imagine. I will probably post a vid up here for people to have a listen to once finished.

Hope the countdown goes quickly for you!

Had a custom cat back done on my 2.3. Sounds awesome. Similar noise during normal driving, but comes alive under revs. Think it was around £350ish. The company is based in Leeds and could custom the noise to however you want it.
E89 23i M Sport, Saphire Black, Canberra Beige Leather.
Mods: De-badged, blue callipers, gloss black LCI's and roll over hoops, black performance grills, stubby aerial, rear carbon diffuser, gunmetal powdercoated alloys, custom stainless cat back exhaust.

You only need to keep the aerial if you listen to AM frequencies, otherwise you can ditch it. The FM aerial is in the rear bumper, apparently.

I've ordered a Remus cat back, will let you know what it's like when it arrives.

It's a myth, the whippy gives better reception and is more pleasing to the eye...unless you prod your eye on said whippy.

More pleasing to the eye?! :?

I did some more research, according to BMW technical docs the whippy aerial is a FM2 aerial for 'FM diversity'....

I'm never quite sure why people want to make their cars noisier but each to his own ... I was sitting in a supermarket car park this morning when a total tosser went racing round, twice, then parked right next to me, in a Z3 with the top down making a hell of a racket, I mean, very very loud. It really sounded awful .... and the pillock had his baseball cap on back-to-front, presumably because it didn't come with any instructions. What a dipstick! I was in my Jag but if I'd been in the Z4 I'd have been even more embarrassed ... :x

Yeah. Tony Banks Exhausts. Just google it. Awesome service and as I say, they do a stainless to whatever your specification is.

Picked her up last night. Not the best pictures I know. Got to drive her home with the roof down (a rare thing to see the sun in Scotland!)

Over the moon. Was hesitant going for the 2.3i but I find it more involving as you need to work the car a bit harder. Only gripe so far is no cup holder!!!

Oh and black kidney grills? What do you think?

Hi Harvey669,

Nice car....
Have you had a look under the arm rest, mine has 2 cup holders under there...and if you gently push the arm rest up
a little bit further it holds it up there out of the way...

Good luck with the new car,

Mike.
