My point is that Zeppelin Friedrichshafen once made a crap gearbox. From what you say, they don't now.

Your point, as usual, is irrelevant, as the box you're waffling about has never been in a Z4, which is what Pbondar said.Busterboo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2017 10:21 pmMy point is that Zeppelin Friedrichshafen once made a crap gearbox. From what you say, they don't now.
It's like a constant rolling road of stupidity with you isn't it....

35i or 35is?
I was dead set on having a manual with my first e89, so never test drove the many 30i models that were around at the time.
Got bored with the manual 23 and realised the DCT is where it's at. I'm a convert, especially with the updated paddle shifters on the LCI models, it's an absolute pleasure to drive.

35i or 35is?
Only way is to try both. Dct really is rather good.
Plus, 35is is the best car ever built by Bmw.
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Another plus for the manual is, according to BMW, the manual gearbox weighs a rather shocking 80 pounds less than the automatic. (Not to mention an aluminum flywheel could knock another 10-15 or so pounds of weight off the car. Other forums comparing the DCT vs. Manual come up with numbers around 80 pounds as well.
On another note, many have commented that using catless downpipes with the 35i but keeping the rest of the exhaust stock on the 35i creates a nice aggressive engine note.

For me there is also the consideration of adaptive ride really wanting to avoid this feature due to known issues & as i'm buying in around the 10plates highly likely they will need attention sooner than later & at £600ish a corner not too appealing
Manual box also appealing especially coming straight from Mroady .
I think as time passes the price difference between the 2 will diminish ( to some extent it already has ) as they start hitting 8 - 9 - 10 yrs old then condition , history + miles will prove a bigger deciding factor for many buyers .

Was around £15k but would have gone up to £17500 if necessary ( for sub 60k car either 35i or Is )sunnydays wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2017 8:40 amWhat is your budget?mr wilks wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2017 6:53 am For me there is also the consideration of adaptive ride really wanting to avoid this feature due to known issues & as i'm buying in around the 10plates highly likely they will need attention sooner than later & at £600ish a corner not too appealing

I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable with big numbers ( over £25k ) invested in one right now as they appear to be dropping quite noticeably now whereas the last 2 -3 years the twinnies have stood well in comparison to the rest of the E89s
