Exhaust tips
Can anyone tell me how the exhaust tips are fitted to the back box. Are they just push on or is these some sort of fixing.

They are push on but may be very tight and need a bit of effort to get off.

I used a rubber mallet and trying to be careful got them off in the end.
At some point I want to get them plated as the original finish is pretty poor.

I think the originals are alloy...I've got a polishing kit that I use for the bike, a mirror finish on alloy is no problem (as long as you can get the feckin things off) LolNictrix wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2017 8:00 pmI used a rubber mallet and trying to be careful got them off in the end.

Im not so sure they are alloy. They are held on with spring clips that are welded on and these rust onto the exhaust. That's what makes them so difficult to come off the first time.Udspie wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2017 8:20 pmI think the originals are alloy...I've got a polishing kit that I use for the bike, a mirror finish on alloy is no problem (as long as you can get the feckin things off) Lol

Be gentle when polishing the tips they only have a thin coating over what looks like a copper base I found out the hard way

Must be a rivet/weld....The new genuine replacement ones are alloy. If they rust, they aint alloy, maybe not, I'm not 100% on that.Nictrix wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2017 8:29 pmIm not so sure they are alloy. Mine are filthy also, the one part of the car I cannot get clean!
I purchased some silvio, and a buffing pad, not tried it yet....
Any advice on how to clean these would be much appreciated!!

I use paraffin now and again just to get the worst off as they are never going to be spotless especially the ring at the end.
That's why I would like to plate ours.

They look like stainless with a dull chrome layer, usually decent chroming has a copper coat underneath.

Would this mean it would be possible to polish right through both coatings into the stainless to get a good finish?

I think you will find spot weld blemishes if you remove the finish.
