Instrument lights and Nav issue

Post by Pipkin38 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 1:17 pm

Good afternoon chaps

I have a couple of questions about my 2011 2.3 sdrive e89

I drove the car for the first time in the dark and have noticed a possible issue with the instrument back lighting

In the photo the warning triangle and the door lock switch light up with side and dipped lights.

The switches for driver and passenger vents dont light up but look as though they should. As does the hot / cold selector switch.

So the first question is should the switches be illuminated and if so am I going to have to remove the whole of the front of the car to get to the bulbs ! ! !

Second issue is a navigation one.

If I press options button when in nav mode I get the following screen.

Anyone know why I cant select the two greyed out options?

The nav system is running 2017 premium maps and is up to date software wise.

Is it just a case of good old Bmw saying....."Oooh look what you could've had"

Many thanks in advance chaps

Steve

I agree they should really, lousy cost cutting as usual...

The nav thing I'm not sure, someone will be along who knows.

That's arguably the coolest avatar on the forum, I'm of an age when I can just remember Pipkin.

It really should switch into night mode automatically or at least when the headlights are turned on - it shouldn't need the drivers intervention these days!

Most modern cars do this... but sadly not designs that are 9 years old. The e89 is not a young car.

I agree - we had a 2006 Audi A4 and that car simply went into night mode when the headlights came on.
It must only be a minor change / update to incorporate into a car?
