I've done 10k miles in my 35iS since I bought it 7 months ago with 20k on the clock.
The display now gives these averages:

mph 31.5
mpg 25.2

Are these figures similar to yours?

Hi Busterboo,

Lots of motorway driving or long cruising?

Will check my MPH figure but I know my MPG figure is around 17MPG.

Hiya, sunnydays.

Little motorway driving.
No long cruising.

Local shopping.
B road driving.
50-80-mile runs at up to n+60*.

Your mph figure should be interesting because your mpg is low.

I do mostly mixed driving some long motorway and some short, also do a lot of local shopping / work related trips. If I don't reset the trip for a few weeks the readings are generally 35 mph and around 27 mpg.

I measure the mpg accurately over each tank full (brim to brim) and over 28,960 miles it has averaged 27.23 mpg. I can't remember ever having reset the computer for mph and it currently shows an average of 48.9 mph.
Considering Ordered Received 35is - Melbourne Red / Ivory White with lots of bells & whistles. Deep Sea Blue replacement 35is now also departed. Replaced by something more brash, more powerful and American!

According to Fuelly over the 2644 miles since I've had it, I'm on 28.0 average with a best yesterday of 40.9 on a trip to Glasgow in the early hours (cruise set at 66mph, very boring  ). Had to ease off a bit on way back as I was struggling to make the refuel before Preston after 455 miles on one tank. Picture below shows 450 miles but I had reset the journey before I left in the morning and I had done 5 miles since filling her up the night before. :P
Was getting quite a sweat on for the last 30 miles or so!! :sos:

I too only ever brim to brim, so figures are accurate. I think I was on 25.6 average prior to yesterday. Don't know my average mph I'm afraid as I regularly reset the trip and the journey figures.

I had my fun after the refuel at Preston, especially on the few miles of country roads after I left the motorway before I got home. Anyone can drive fast on the motorway, very boring, straight lines and the 35is get's very illegal very quickly. It doesn't achieve a lot except penalty points/loss of licence and I'm a professional driver for a living  I just wanted to see how good it could get on a gentle cruise.
I'll show you what it comes out at after my trip to Nurburg at the beginning of August  probably about 6mpg per lap, the last time I went the V6 TT averaged 8mpg per lap :trampoline:

That seems to be a high figure. Lots of motorway time?

Not particularly. My daily commute which dominates is almost exactly 50/50 motorway/B road. Then again, no one has ever accused me of driving slowly :driving:

In which case, 48.9mph is a high average figure. :)

Well, your average speed was only ever going to be dismally low or crazy high to get that sort of consumption average! But for your sake I wish it had been crazy high!

If you brim the tank every time you will get less mpg, more weight in the car, more stiction to get it moving, tyre deformation etc.
Mine is a 23i with 76k on it, I had it terracleaned a month ago, highly recommended. On a motorway trip over 340 miles I get 48.9mpg (42 prior to terraclean) on tesco super unleaded.

As the OP has correctly done, it is absolutely crucial when comparing mpg to compare at least mph as this gives some indication of usage pattern. Average trip distance, ambient temp, engine model are also good contributors when same model of car.

You can never compare one mpg to another without some basic KPIs. I see people talking on many forums about mpg concerns without other contributory data and it makes for a fruitless repetitive conversation every single time with inevitably someone suggesting they get 50mpg on 1 mile trips at WOT or someone else with 9mpg average and no idea why...
