New wheel or repair?

Post by Andyarmra » Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:30 pm

Hi all,

I have my car in the stealers at the moment for the electrical recall fault and they've "kindly" done a health check on it. Problem is, they say they've found a cracked rim on one of my 326, double spokes alloys (Non-runflats fitted). I only had them refurbished 3 weeks ago and there were no problems then!! I drive pretty carefully and know every pothole around here so I'm a bit miffed to say the least. :x :x

Question is, where can I can a replacement rear wheel (if it can't be fixed) as they are quoting £656 for one? I'm Just east of Cambridge so the car is in Cambourne at the moment.

Cheers.

Andy.

It can be welded but there's no guarantee that the repair won't open up again. Personally I would look for a replacement wheel, they must come up on eBay as a starting point.

Can't see any on eBay that aren't cracked but you can get a new wheel from Leebmann24 for €549 delivered....just under £500 by my calculations. Still sore though.

Pics please and tread depths. If the OP doesn't want them I'm very tempted.

Need a spare winter set.

They have runflats on them so surely they would be the first thing to go?? Will post a picture later

Entirely possible but the price is attractive as a spare set to me for whatever purpose

Also want to refurb my 313s so a 326 set would be good to keep it on the road while the 313s are sorted.

I will only post 1 picture as they are all the same. No tears in the tyres and none are kerbed. 6mm tread across all 4 bridgestones.

Thanks for the replies all. The full set is tempting but I'll give it a miss thanks. Black boots on blue isn't my thing but cheers anyway.

I'll look on the Leebmann24 website and see what they have. Either way, this is gonna be a steep bill as they did pick up a few other things which I'll get sorted by my local.

It seems to me that the dealers actually look for cracks specifically on these wheels because they know there is a problem and can potentially earn them cash for a replacement wheel.
Do they get the car on the ramps and spin each wheel while searching the inside rim?
I can just imagine that a cheer goes up in the workshop when one of the mechanics finds a crack.

So on the Leebmann website, I get these options. I have tyre pressure warning in my car (tell me if I have low pressure in my tyres on the idrive) BUT my VIN list doesn't say anything about the RDC S2VBA module. Are these two things different? Getting confuzzled!! :(

I'm no expert on the E89 but I don't think you have the tyre pressure monitor valves. First option will give you the price for a wheel only, to get to the price I gave you requires sending them a message saying you're a member of a forum and ask for the discount to be applied to your account. Once done the discount will be applied automatically every time.

Don't bother buying another it will just crack again, and you will be £600 lighter. Best solution is buy some high quality aftermarket alloys and enjoy.

The 326Ms are notorious for cracking

Only refurbed 3 weeks ago.. I would contact who ever did the ferb and ask if they had noticed anything ??. I would see if they can weld the rim and go down that line. As already mentioned, your bound to get more cracks in them :|
