1.8i or 2.0i MSport 2014

Post by petrolhead » Mon Jul 17, 2017 3:13 pm

Apart from the engine power is there anything else different about the two models?

I have head that the 1.8i is very easily chipped ie Spuperschips claim and extra 120bhp and 130nm.

My reason for the question is I am looking for a 2.0i but have only found a 1.8i with the spec I want

Just ditch the run flats and fit normal tyres, the ride is a lot smoother.

I got the 28i but apparently an 18i and 20i will map to 260bhp. But the 28i will map to nearer 280-290bhp. Apparently they're all the same so no idea why the 28i produces more power when mapped.

I think the 28i has bigger brakes, if the 18i/20i has worse brakes than the 28i I'd definitely recommend upgrading them if you're planning on remapping.

In my experience fitting better pads makes a huge difference

Just hd a look at RealOEM and from what I can see the 1.8i and 2.0i share the same components.

The salesman, like so many, gave me some mubo jumbo re the difference in turbo re the engine siting the 1.8 has one, the 2.0 two and the 2.8 three

The 18i does not have dual zone climate as standard.
The four round controls on the dash look quite a bit different on the 18i
Have a look on auto trader and compare.

Interesting. You are well versed in the Z4 ways :)

I also notice you can't seem to get a 1.8i MSport either

OK, so lloks like I probable need to keep loking for 2.0i and above

Evolve can get the 20i to this level & a decat downpipe can put another 20bhp on top...

Or you could always go for a proper engine in the first place with the correct amount of cylinders :poke:

Wow, you should ask him to point out all those turbos on the 28i, I'm surprised the bonnets able to close

But a 28i will map to more than that without the decat / dp and over 300bhp with it.

I personally wouldn't want to be driving my 28i with brakes worse than what it has.

If you can find a 28i then get one.
