Upgraded "fast road" Brake Pads

Post by SteveSmith » Fri Sep 01, 2017 10:58 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can buy upgraded brake pads for my 28i please?

Any recommendations?

I understand the 28i has bigger brakes than the 18i and 20i but they must share brakes with other BMW models, can anyone shed any light?

Thanks,

Steve

Found these... apparently Red Stuffs are now fast road use for cars over 200bhp. Anyone used them?

You are really best using a standard compound, you will gain nothing from using fast road pads as most of the time you are not driving in any sort of fast road mode! You may also find that they wear your discs faster than a standard compound.

Demon Tweeks are very expensive.

I've used red stuff in my last few dailys, including my 3.0si, great for the money, work well from cold, but would fade extremely quickly on track. Yellows would have been a better fit for that car (265bhp) but reds are much better than oem pads imo.

EBC seem to have a bad rep, but I've found them good, I'm using Blue Stuff NDX in my M Coupe after a recommendation from a fellow forum member who uses them on track in his APs, they're not quite up to the level of the best pads out there, but at around half the price theyre great for the money.
Currently zedless :(

I'm running EBC yellowstuff on my Z4C and very happy with them. A set will also be going on my E46 trackday car tomorrow.
Try MTEC brakes, they seem to have good prices.

Hi Steve, I've used greenstuff pads on a couple of cars previously & been pleased with them (good braking from cold & low dust) I rarely stand on my brakes though so cant vouch for ultimate performance

Leave well alone!
The standard bmw brakes are set up by bmw to suit the car...and they really know your car better than some after market company
If your brakes are poor then you have a fault that needs fixing
If you change anything in your braking system i hope you informed your insurance company when you are being dragged out of a hedge!

I changed to ceramic front pads on the basis of lower dust and also changed to s/steel braided hoses all round. The result I found was slightly less dust but a sharper and more prolonged bite this I credit to the hoses.

Couldn't disagree more haha

BMW have got the brakes wrong on many cars in the past!

BMW stick an everyday pad in when new something that lasts quite a while and works well from cold etc

With Performance pads there is usually a compromise, it may be they don't last as long, it could be they wear the disc's quicker or the fact they don't perform well from cold but changing to performance pads is defiantly worth doing if you drive your car quite hard on a road.

You can get OEM brakes to fade quite quickly when pushing on a bit!

I can recommend Pagid RS29's OP not great but one of the best on the market!

Have a look on MSMotorsport website and send Martin an email to see what pad options you have for your car.

Some interesting opinions here

Nothing wrong with my brakes (apart from the fact they need changing in 1000 miles!) but I like to upgrade everything when it needs changing if I can.

I've just increased the power so an upgraded brake seems sensible.

I've read that Green stuffs are now more suited to sub 200bhp, Reds are for over 200bhp and Yellows are more track focussed.

I'm really struggling to find anywhere for performance parts for the Z4, maybe I'm missing something obvious!

I'm keen to change the exhaust as well but I can only find the supersprint option. I only want a slight increase in noise so may go for custom rear section / silencer with new tips.

Thank you, think I might try EBC with the upgraded discs

I'm driving mine much gentler now but when I do have a mad 5 minutes down an A road I don't want them fading after 2 roundabouts!
