Hi

Looking to get my 2013 2.0 MSport remapped. I believe I can get a custom remap done for approx. £500, so want to know I am getting a quality job! I live in East Yorkshire, but happy to travel to get the best job done.

Cheers!

Just go to Evolve. Probably the only company I'd want remapping mine.

I've just fitted the BMS Stage 1 tuning box to my 28i, it's incredible but I don't think it would work as well on a 20i.
28i M Sport - Alpine White / Canberra Beige, 19" M359’s, H&R’s / Eibachs, BMS Stage 1 - 271bhp, Front Splitter, CF Rear Lip, Alcantara Steering Wheel and Brembo 4 pots

I had mine done by Celtic tuning..runs perfectly if quicker..see threads posted relating to top limit of N20 series engines.

Essentially the 1.8/2.0/2.8 are the same engines so their limits are identical...anything over around 285-300 BHP starts to run into thermo dynamic stesses that the engines can't take on a sustained basis..

For the 2.0i a remap offers far more potential than an add on box..

The Celtic (and I understand Evolve remap, and maybe others) offer a good trade off between cost (which is very expensive for what it is) and performance.

Celtic backed their tune off from 295 to 280 based on the emerging horror stories of over tweaked N20 letting go..

Unlike many earlier engines the N20 (and its successors) have far more potential to be tuned than they can thermodynically tolerate...

Anyway thats my view..

Cheers chaps.

Celtic are in Devon, so not exactly convenient, but Luton is OK so I'll look at Evolve unless anyone else knows anywhere further north?

As I understand it is torque that's caused issues

http://www.p-torque.co.uk/

Really knows his stuff . Big HP and Torque Gains. I have had 3 cars mapped there . There is a risk tuning N20 engine. I think they did some test to destruction tests in America. Every day road use should be OK.

I've used both P-Torque and End Tuning on other vehicles and I can attest to each being incredibly helpful.
Both cars drove exactly as I wanted after. Plenty of power and smooth delivery.

Enda at End Tuning would be my first choice if he is local. I had a raft of questions concerning my 320d remap and he answered them all. Very strong technical knowledge.

P-Torque do have a dyno which might swing it for you.

Yes P- Torque took 4 hrs + to sort the map out with a before and after power/torque graph. He does a very thorough job.

I would say Evolve, they wont be the cheapest but your will be in safe hands.

Another option is message smartbear and see who he used as I know he got good gains from his. :)

£500!!!! about twice what you should be paying.

I use RH Tuning in Plymouth, long way from Yorkshire, I know as I am from Hull. But it would give you a great drive back to test it out.
Give them a ring, Ryan is the guy and they have a website here https://www.rhtuning.co.uk/
Their tuning location is like a hospital, mapping takes around 4 - 4.5 hours and is custom to your car.

I have a 2009 23i, my remap cost would have been £250 but I got an offer deal at £200. The difference in the car is simply amazing, go for it........

Hi, I doubt you will get a remap for the 20i for £200? Part of the reason is the gains possible-with your 23i I'm guessing you would see 10/20bhp extra with the map, the 20i can gain around 100bhp extra & that's why the maps cost much more. Its all about the gains & its cheap horsepower at the price they charge

I think you will find that as no parts are required then the cost of a remap is primarily labour based. As it takes no longer to remap one Z4 model or another then the price of £500 is vastly inflated. I had my last C63 remapped and they only charged £299 for that, it also took 4 hours which kind of proves the point I think. Big bucks does not always = better result (within reason of course).

You're right about the actual costing being no more expensive than for other cars but they will charge more because of the large gains achievable-its the way of the world
Even at £5/600 its still very cheap horsepower (cheaper than you paid per bhp gained)
