The reason newer cars cost more to remap is just technology.

Newer ECUs require different hardware to program. The companies which develop this technology often charge a premium for their efforts until competition arises. It's got absolutely nothing to do with power gains, more down to what people will pay and the size of the market.

The N20 engine uses the MEVD17.2.9 or MEVD17.2.4 ECU. From a quick google it looks like you can buy the tools (albeit cloned ones) to read and write to them for £80~.

I think Evolve are just charging a premium because they can, not because they are giving any added value.

Looking to get my 2013 2.0 MSport remapped. I believe I can get a custom remap done for approx. £500, so want to know I am getting a quality job! I live in East Yorkshire, but happy to travel to get the best job done.

Cheers!
I think your £500ish budget is realistic based on what people have paid who've had their N20s done. Although I've not used them I've heard good things about Evolve

Disagree with your reasoning here, people are willing to pay more for larger gains so pricing is intrinsically linked to the shove to ££ ratio imho.

I've been told by multiple tuners that the ECU has to be removed on the n20?

AMD said they would have to remove the inlet manifold and they'd need the car for 6 hours, hence the £600.

You're right about the ecu needing to be removed, mine was done without the inlet manifold being touched though

All very, very useful chaps.

One thing I should perhaps have said is that this is my daily driver, so I am not chasing as much power as possible, just as much as possible with a nice fat torque curve and no (little) added risk of engine issues.

I will digest and then start a thread once I've decided who to use and keep everyone informed. I will get a before and after dyno whoever I use.

Thanks again!

Both cars drove exactly as I wanted after. Plenty of power and smooth delivery.

Enda at End Tuning would be my first choice if he is local. I had a raft of questions concerning my 320d remap and he answered them all. Very strong technical knowledge.

P-Torque do have a dyno which might swing it for you.
Seen Enda earlier today for some coding. Does help I'm in Birmingham known him years now. He's probably worked on 20+ of my bmw cars. Known him from E46 forum days. Very intelligent guy and not just a remaper

I have used DMS four times in the past, and they have always transformed the car. I only live 5 minutes from them, which is a deciding factor, but have always been more than pleased with the results.

New to the Z4, with a E89 3.0i M Sport in Melbourne Red, so won't be getting this one DMS'ed as NA so just not worth it.

Give these people a go - Marc is switched on and I've heard nothing but good reports - it wouldn't be a bad run up here and a better run back home!

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Rather than start a new topic, *BUMP!*

Are companies like Autotech worth considering?
They're claiming to make 360BHP & 520Nm from my 35i for £200.

Use MHD Flasher instead, there stage 1+ map puts you just under 400 bhp and around 600nm of torque iirc. Heavily customisable too and is only around £200. You can do it off an android device

What sort of gains are possible for a 2004 3.0i M54 engine?
Now: 2004 Z4 3.0i - Merlot Red
Before: VW Corrado VR6 Storm - Classic Green

In short: no

As Sunndays said, options like MHD are superior.

It’s normally aspirated so not very much, possibly a dozen or so horses?

Ah ok. I managed to get 35 with my Corrado VR6 but that also included different cams so hard to isolate just to the re-map
