That is very tempting, I'd love to add CC to my Z4. A few too many projects on the go at the moment though. Maybe one day...

Just to add a couple of points to this.

Firstly, the pins on the connector and switch may not line up perfectly. If that's the case DON'T FORCE IT! When it's line up it slots in with very little effort. If you push the plug in and it doesn't slot straight home, check the end of the plug for witness marks where the pins have touched it and use a small screwdriver to VERY GENTLY move the pins slightly to align them.

Secondly, the cowling. As can be seen in many of the pictures, the line in the moulding on the cowling is pretty much spot on for width so you can cut up to the line with no issue. The line across the bottom is different. I've found there is a fair bit of movement in my cowling when it is fixed in place. It's enough to change it from OEM fit to a retrofit finish. I'd advise to cut 5mm above the line and trial fit it around the switch. Then use a file to gradually open up the slot until you get a good fit. I cut to the line and have a small gap. If it goes totally Pete Tong a replacement cowling is a tenner on ebay. The factory cut cowlings do come up but they're rare.

Finally, current price of the switch from the stealer was about £110.

Thanks.

Apologies for the thread resurrection.

My stalk arrived today, and was going to do a little dremmeling on the cowling - Is there a knack to removing the lower cowling? I've removed the screw, lowered the wheel height lever. - the cowling comes off from the back end, but the part right behind the steering wheel, seems stuck fast. Don't want to be too aggressive with it in case i snap the plastic! Any tips would be much appreciated

hello all,

Can someone clear this up for me because I have had a bit of a brain fart.

If I use this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-cruis ... 0011.m1850

Do I need anything else and is it fairly easy to do. Sorry if I have missed the answer before! Mine is a 2006 facelift with N52 engine.

thank you!

Hi Sam

Just bought this bit of kit but the installation instructions on the Bimmertune website don't fill me with confidence. There's a lot of loose language like, "take the light switch out" and "remove the steering column cowling". Might be OK for the experts but I need a Noddy guide.

I've PM'd one of the mods to see if he still has the golden guide available. I'll ping it over to you as soon as I get it.

Cheers
Kav

Is there anyone on here who would undertake this little operation for me in exchange for cold hard cash? I’m South West London so Hampshire/Surrey/kent/Sussex way would be cool. Cheers

I may be wrong, but I think "srhutch" who makes up the wiring loom section you'll need is in Sussex - and may be able to help with installation.

Send him a begging pm - you never know!

Got CC retrofitted today

It was reasonably straightforward and one of those jobs you feel immense satisfaction once it's done. I used a combination of the Bimmertune instructions and jamiecarpenter. Nice one - thanks mate :D
