Rear Light Facelift Update Cheap How to

Post by Gr3g4 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 8:34 pm

Hello. Can I code the car while old lights are still connected? Will this damage anything because of the higher voltage? I need this because the body work will be done by one guy and the electricity and coding by the other. That's why I would like to make the coding first at the electricity guy and drive with old lights to the body shop.

yg54sg wrote:* the correct procedure would be to use a metal saw and saw out the new holes on the body panel behind the light cluster BMW actally provides a template for this... however since I have never replaced a bulb in the 5 years I have had the car i dont see why I should saw up part of the metal on the car. Using my method if you really have to change a bulb just undo the 3 nuts and let the whole cluster come out, takes 2 minutes! The lights fit perfect and you can still change the bulb easily... so no hard done!
Where can I get this template? I will do a repaint so I would like to cut the holes as in facelifted model.

Or maybe vice versa mate. Could wire everything up (correctly to facelift) and leave the lights off till you get the chance to code them. Not having enough voltage can't do harm? But I'm sure having it the other way round would...

Will also be in the same boat so nice to know what options are available :)

@kis we decided to play it safe and do the coding at the body work garage.. :)

I'm still searching for the FL body hole template for rear lights though...

Pins inside the car connector? They should unclip from inside. I think you push the little tab down then if you pull the wire it should come out. You can then reposition where necessary...

For what it's worth a rear bumper should be pretty cheap to pick up 2nd hand and in the right colour too. Finishes it all off nicely. Slightly different lines too...

It's if you're after a M bumper that you'll need more dolla!

Sorry about some pics. Best ones I could find in Titan to match and compare Marius's one.

Title says Cheap how to. Surely it's not cheaper to buy lights, bumper and respray then just buy and fit lights with existing bumper.

Rear Light Facelift Update Cheap How to

Post by IAmOrion » Tue Dec 19, 2017 6:59 pm

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I will be attempting this most likely in the morning or at least over the next few days... can someone confirm the easiest / best route to take?

I have the facelift rear lights, the facelift surrounds, and an M facelift rear bumper so really it's just the light wiring / coding I need confirmation on. Does it have to be done via NCSExpert? Can it be done with Carly? (I ask as even though I have ncsexpert working, I've no idea how to use it) and is it as simple as changing the wire order in the plug as found in this guide here: https://www.motor-talk.de/blogs/audi-a3 ... 19777.html

Many thanks in advance
