hi all,

well, i ordered the following parts:
- CID / Flap monitor
- Headunit
- X3 harness
- cutting template for making whole for the montior

I already have a navigation business system, hence i have the mk3 in my car.

since i haven't obtained the coding kit to reprogramme my mk3 to the big display, will music and work anyhow?
is there any writing telling me how to modify the x3 harness to fit to my z4?

thx a lot,
nam

Since I got a feeling that the cutout on the template is a little too big, I opted out to make a slightly narrower cut - 6 mm according to my measurements. I was correct... I am not saying that the template supplied is oversized or not correct, I just felt comfortabler doing it this way.

... interior does look "complete" now, I think that the navigation really adds to the final image of the car.

Well, it was worth it. The last part - installation of the monitor - was quite a stresfull job with a lot of "what ifs". But I'm glad I did it 8)

Thanks for looking and for input when needed :D Have a nice evening, Saso

did you fit the grey display or is it a black one? i just bought one in grey and hopefully it looks like yours...

I had this same problem, in all the pics the black displays look grey, but when you get the display in person they are very much black. I was going to buy a used grey display off ebay and some members convinced me otherwise....bc i have black dashtop.....

One of the forum members (th30d0r3) customised an X3 loom, you could try sending him a PM.

Cheers

It is not so much the interior, it is the clash with the dash colour that would bother me.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

well, for pre-facelift it's ok since most of the other parts are silver/grey too.

@bug - thx for the hint, I sent him a message an looking forward to response.
I just retrofitted the display and waiting until the other parts arrive..

looks like your head unit and vents are grey so was the best colour anyway.

What colour head unit have you sourced?

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the turning mechanism of the monitor working without having to mount the satnav computer, gps antenna etc? I'm considering to mount the monitor but with an aftermarket satnav or a tablet computer to replace the screen... It would be great if the monitor also goes up and down. Would I need the whole loom or is there another way?

And yet another question :D

Does anyone have the dimensions (incl depth in the dash) of the standard satnav flip up/down monitor? Are the dimensions of this monitor the same as the dimensions of the X3-monitor? I have read on a few posts here that the parts look alike and that some have even received X3 parts in error when installing the standard satnav. So if the dimensions are the same... the X3 dash bin should fit the E85... hence the portable BMW Garmin system should fit the E85...?

The X3 monitor is slightly different and I would avoid as it looks wrong and the viewing angles are also slightly different.

If you know electronics then yes you could get the motor to operate using the switches on the side independently of the vehicle.
