Sad day..
Driving home this evening in traffic and the guy behind me drove straight into the rear of me.
Scratches and a few dents on the boot and bumper.
Now these cars are really not worth much so I am now dreading if they write my car off. I've only had it since May.
Although the other car same off worse!

Ouch - sorry to see your Z4's suffering.
I wouldn't expect that to write your car off, although a new rear bumper isn't going to be cheap.
At least you know "whodunit".
Hope you get it sorted without any grief.

I think it will have to be a rear bumper plus a new boot as well. With those two parts alone and spraying I would have thought it will be more than £1500 which will put it in the 50% mark of their value.
Insurers won't want to pay it and write the car off.
Obviously I hope not.

From what I can see in the pic that damage can be sorted with a smart repair. Dents and cracks in plastic bumpers can be easily repaired. The damage on the boot lid too is superficial. My daughter reversed into a lamp post recently in her 1 Series BMW and caused much worse looking damage than that - bumper badly creased and dent in tailgate - and it was all sorted with a smart repair. Took a day and a half and £300. Wouldn't know it had happened

If you don't want it written off, or if it is "beyond economical repair" and you want to keep it - DON'T go through your own insurance! Notify them, as you have to, but tell them you will not be making a claim. Then instruct a solicitor to recover your damages & losses from the third party. If you need one, I have a very good friend who is one and I trust implicitly.
Above all, as I said, don't claim on your own policy, as you WILL lose control of what happens to the car if the repair costs exceed about 25% of it's value, before labour, which is the killer..
Just for info, that car is showing as insured on the MID at the moment. Did you get a photo of the driver? Well worth doing if it ever happens again, I had one guy deny he was the driver, but I had a photo of him standing between our cars...

Bumper is probably beyond a smart repair as it's been pushed over the the crash bar.EssexZed wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:40 pm From what I can see in the pic that damage can be sorted with a smart repair. I work in insurance so am well versed on what I have to do, more than happy to go through my insurers as this works for me.
If it gets written off so be it, obviously I have grown attached however I wish I had held out for a 3ltr so whatever happens it won't be too bad.

If that were true I might agree but how can you tell from that photo?Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:43 pmBumper is probably beyond a smart repair as it's been pushed over the the crash bar.EssexZed wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:40 pm From what I can see in the pic that damage can be sorted with a smart repair. 2nd pic, you can see the outline of the bar, no 2 in pic below. The bar could well also be bent, as it's designed to crumple..EssexZed wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:49 pmIf that were true I might agree but how can you tell from that photo?Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:43 pmBumper is probably beyond a smart repair as it's been pushed over the the crash bar.EssexZed wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:40 pm From what I can see in the pic that damage can be sorted with a smart repair. Agree with the OP. Doesn't look much, but needs a new boot bumper and respray, plus possibly sub frame for bumper. That won't be a cheap fix.
Could be a 3ltr in your life soon though.
Either way hope it's not too much of a faff to get sorted.

Looks like the exhaust is a little bent out of shape as the tips are pointing to the ground a bit. Probably just the hangers and easily bent back into but one of the tips looks a bit battered, although it could just be bits of the other cars front bumper. Rear brake light cracked on the corner as well but knowing these cars it was probably already like that. But if it does get fixed you might as well get a new one on the insurance. Will also add to the cost if you want it writing off.
