6 stage remote roof drop
Hi all,
If you've seen my post in the Newbies section, you'll know I've just purchased a 54 plate roadster.
Let's talk roof. I haven't yet looked at moving the motor to the boot, but it is high on my todo list! That aside, the motor in the car works perfectly. I hold the down button, the roof goes down. I hold the up button, guess what? It goes up.
However, it seems mine has the remote drop from the key (not the aftermarket 3-clicker, but BMW OEM). If you press to unlock the car and then press and hold, the roof unlatches and moves back. It does, however, stop after a foot. The previous owner thought this was a feature BMW added to help you clean it... I'm not convinced.
If you then let go of the button and hold it again, it moves back slightly further. Do that 5/6 times and eventually it locks into the rear position! This is stood next to the car and I've tested on both keys.
Any ideas? The aftermarket gizmo (forgot the name) is an option in the future, but I'd like to get this working if possible.
Cheers,
Sam.

That all sounds normal. As std you have to hold the button to keep the roof moving, which is a bit rubbish and why so many go for the aftermarket modules.
...or do you mean even if you keep the button pressed, the roof stops?

Yeah, even with the button pressed as you would in the car. I hold the button and it goes back a foot.. I can keep holding it for eternity but the roof will move no further until I release and then rehold the unlock button.

Sounds like the battery in the key is low on charge - Do you have another key to try?

I thought that, but it came with two keys, both do the same thing. I did a run on my 'main' key of about an hour / hour and a half Saturday so hope it charged enough. I may drive with the other key for a few days and see if it still does it.Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 10:48 pm Sounds like the battery in the key is low on charge - Do you have another key to try?

To add:
From what I've read, nothing my roof does is normal. Perhaps someone could confirm?
- When sat in the car with the engine idling, I press and hold the 'Roof down' button on the console. The windows drop half way, the roof folds all the way back, locks in. The windows do not go back up, which from what I've read should happen?
- Similarly, when I sit in the car with the engine idling, press and hold the 'roof up' button, the roof goes all the way up, locks in, then the passenger windows goes back up.. The drivers window sits at half way looking at me.
- After trying to drop the roof with the key fob, when the roof gets stuck, a red light flashes on the console button. Almost like I've stopped the process!
Obviously, none of this is the end of the world, but it's a pain in the a**.

Yep, all sounds like it could be as simple as poor batteries in the fob and windows need resetting.
Here is the procedure...
Close both doors and the soft top (or hardtop installed).
Ignition on.
Lower both windows completely.
Raise windows and hold the switches in the up position for an additional 2 seconds after the windows reach the top.
Lower the windows 100 mm or approximately 4 inches.
Raise the windows and hold the switches in the up position for an additional 2 seconds after the windows reach the top.
Test the windows open and close using the one-touch feature function.

Just wanted to chuck an update in.
Thank you all. I did the window reset as per ph001's instructions, both windows now work perfectly on one touch. Weirdly, it seems to have also resolved the roof problem on the key. Went down all the way first time after resetting the windows.
Thanks again.

Reminds me I need to do this. My drivers window is misbehaving at the moment.ph001 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2017 12:54 am Yep, all sounds like it could be as simple as poor batteries in the fob and windows need resetting.
