Zeds have had candle lights as standard. But I'm sure you can point them up a little so they light up more. My old MK1 mx5 only has tiny weak bulbs and it does the job on county lanes.

I had the same problem when i first had the car. I upgraded the bulbs, polished the lenses and finally lifted the beam higher using the adjuster screws.

I would recommend replacing the bulbs with Osram Night Breakers H7 12v 55w and raising them from within the engine bay, they are brighter and make a big difference down dark country lanes.

Hi had the same on mine (I have halogens) just adjusted them up a bit using the adjustors and now they're spot on. Might have to adjust them mot time but haven't been flashed by anyone suggesting they're too high

Even the xenons are crap, think it's just because the car is so low down you can't get a decent spread on the beam.

I thought that, but my MR2 is as low and the headlights are brilliant.

I agree with the OP. They are rubbish but then apart from ones fitted with Xenons virtually every single BMW that I have owned (and that's lots) have had atrocious headlamps.
I sometimes have to drive the Z4 under the circumstances that the OP describes (country lanes etc). Now that the days are short I've actually taken to driving a longer route home through town just avoid having to endure the poor lights.

I'm certainly going to try the trick of aiming them upwards a bit.
