would low oil cause emissions light? (EDIT)

Post by JINGLE » Thu Jan 29, 2015 8:46 pm

i knew my oil was getting low as always check but was planning on topping up on Saturday when it was booked in garage for new poly bushes being fitted (could blag some free oil off my mate at the workshop). last night it beeped at me and the oil light came on, drove to work and back today and no light until the last mile and the oil light beeped again and i pulled in garage to buy some oil as didn't want to push my luck........ came out of garage with oil and got in car started up and BAM .......engine management light on.

ive since topped it up with oil and the light is still on :/

does anybody know if this is the possible cause and it just needs resetting on Saturday? or if its happened to anybody else in similar situation?

thanks

Could be a literal ton of things. Have the code read or buy a reader and read it yourself :)

Is it the the EML or the engine symbol (emissions)?

The emissions light could come on if you're burning oil as it could be choking the O2 sensor. The EML is a different warning not related to emissions so not sure if oil issues would affect it.

Just checking which light it is before anyone else throws answers at you

its the engine symbol so the emissions light... sorry my bad i wasnt thinking properly :headbang:

so would the low oil cause the emissions light and if so will it reset itself once the new oil settles and the sensors read all correctly again or will it need resetting?

thanks

The 2.0 engines are famous for such issues.

Absolutely dozens of possibilities have just opened up :fuelfire: If you're burning oil you'll smell it and see it from the exhaust, so that could be an issue but those engines have so many issues relating to emissions I don't even know where to start.
