2003 BMW Z4 Drivers window
Hello my wife's BMW z4 drivers window wont roll up, It goes down in both positions (up will go down) I took it to a bmw service garage and he hooked up a computer to it and rolled the window up and down with the computer, so he said its not the window motor, its the window switch, so I bought another switch and installed it, and it does the same thing? any ideas?

My wife accidently rolled the window down a little and I had to take it back to have him hook it back up to his lap top computer and he rolled it back up?

If it's not the switch then it could be the wiring, can you check for voltage at the switch connector?Bill Dixon wrote:My wife accidently rolled the window down a little and I had to take it back to have him hook it back up to his lap top computer and he rolled it back up?

Probably a broken wire in the door to bodywork area, switch operates the relay, hooking it up to diagnostics allows the relay to be operated without using the switch.

I took it to bmw guy, he hooked it up to his computer and rolled the window up and down with his computer, so would it still be a broken wire?

It could be Bill, as already mentioned the dealers machine can control the window by directly operating the controlling relay up/down.Bill Dixon wrote:I took it to bmw guy, he hooked it up to his computer and rolled the window up and down with his computer, so would it still be a broken wire?
When you try the window, the relay is operated via the door switch. I would disconnect these wires and mega/continuity test them to find the damaged conductor

That should only re-teach auto up/down, the op has a complete lack of up movement which is something different altogetherraymond.harper wrote:Have you tried windows reset ?

As I said, broken wire or faulty switch. The windows aren't can-bus, so have different switch circuits for up and down.
