04 3.0i flat spots at 2k and 4k revs

its not the maf, i changed it and still got the same issue.

not sure what's going on. any one have any ideas?

Vanos solonoids can cause flat spots amongs other things :(

plugs yes, air filter, not sure, just had an insp 1, is that part of an insp 1?

would that throw up an error? do you know how i can check this? its very subtle though.

We had this on our mini, didn't throw any codes. It introduced a flat spot off idle which made gear changing lurchy & felt like a lean mixture.
A new solonoid didn't cure it, we had them purged and it's been fine ever since.

What does "we had them purged" mean mate?

There's an option on the diagnostics kit to purge solonoid valves, it's like bleeding brakes I think it opens the valves for a set amount of time with the engine running to purge the vanos system.

Interesting stuff. What software / diagnostic gear would you need for kind of thing. Currently I only have Carly pro.
2004 Merlot 3.0i SE. Pretty sure I'd rather drive it than polish it.

My 2.5si sport had a miss at 3000revs which was down to valvetronic sensor.Take the multi-plug connector on front top of rockerbox off and if you can see oil inside then the sensor seal has gone.
Search valvetronic and you will find photos of mine.
