Wing mirror glass...gone!

Post by JimBob78 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 7:27 pm

Just parted company at 80 odd, left a series of deep chips and scrapes down door a rear quarter on it's way, just hope it didn't hit anyone behind...
Is there any comeback on bmw for this? Pretty poor show on their part

The auto dimming ones seem to stay attached luckily. Think the bezel round them must keep in place.

Thx for that. I must have autodimmers as theres a thick rubber bezel which looks pretty secure.

Deep chips and scratches? That's interesting! Maybe it shattered when it hit the rear? :(
Hope you can buff it out!

I have a 2003 E85. Not heated. Why heat wing mirrors?
Bummer tho'. Hope you can find a replacement. Maybe a breakers can help.
My drivers side kept flapping in the wind. First off I thought I was having a flashback...Hehe.
Then I gave it a slight pull and it came off in my hand, oops. Stuck it back on with numberplate tape. Good as new

It is odd that they are heated all the time, they could have wired it into the rear screen heater and when this was switched on your mirrors would be too.

My experience with the eBay knock off's are that they're ok (A least the supplier I used was)

Suck the replacement glass onto the original backing and it heats up as normal. This was over 1 year ago and it's still fine :)

Have you tried turning yours on on you E89.

There is a way, but it's not using the heated rear window.

Unless it's different from E90/87 etc.

I assumed they were on all the time. Never really thought much about it and never felt them after the car has been running for a while. :?

I believe they are off at OAT above 25 degrees C and permanently on below -10 degrees C. In between it's controlled by the car but seems to be on at start at least.
