Intravee and parking sensors

Post by Any1else » Sat Apr 01, 2017 3:20 pm

I have 4 parking sensors at the back of the car but the intravee only shows the inboard two on the sat nav screen. Is this normal or should all 4 show distance?

Should show all 4 - perhaps the two outboard ones are not working, or disconnected ?

Intravee and parking sensors

Post by Any1else » Sat Apr 01, 2017 6:31 pm

Cheers Bing. They have just started playing up and I thought the left one wasn't clicking. The right one seems very weak too and Carly says there is a fault in the right one. Does anyone know if they are linked? If the right one was shot would it stop the left from working?

Also - where is the best place to get a body coloured replacement sensor? Ebay at £25? If I need two that's £50.!! Oh for a black car

Intravee and parking sensors

Since it is the two outboard sensors that are playing up I wonder if it is the control unit. Can anyone point me to where it is located so I can check connections?

To test that swap two of the sensors over. If the problem moves it the sensors. (more than likely it will be)

If you put the car in reverse and then lightly touch the sensor you can feel a slight vibration if it's working to some extent. You can compare with the ones you know are working. The control unit is behind carpet in the RHS side of the boot. I had an issue with a sensor that seemed to be vibrating when touched but was occasionally giving problems. I reconnected the connectors to the control unit a few times and it's been fine ever since.

Excellent - thanks. Will check that before taking the bumper off. The middle two certainly have a strong pulse to them but the outer ones are pretty weak or non-existant.

Stuck the pc on it tonight (cos its pissing down) and I see a few errors in the PDC module. After translation I have :-

1. a "Swing out error" in the "right rear converter"
2. a "Short circuit against U-batt" and "short circuit against ground" on the "rear speakers" and the "front sound generator"

I get the feeling that the rear right sensor is shot and the car is therefore short circuiting through that sensor.

Will check the control unit when it stops raining though. Might be something simple.

Checked the connections to the control unit and they were fine. Swapped a good sensor for a dud one and the sensor worked so the control unit is fine. Need to order a couple of sensors now.

Called BMW and guess what they wanted for one - £166 inc VAT.

OK, onto ebay for sensors and paint.

Intravee and parking sensors

Post by Any1else » Mon Apr 24, 2017 7:55 pm

Ordered two new ones and installed them tonight. Now when I engage reverse I get no beep from the car and the Intravee screen doesn't come up. When it's in reverse all the sensors pulse so I know they are working. Is there anything else I need to reset? Cleared an error with Carly but it still doesn't beep and register objects behind the car.
