Loose gear knob

Post by Killiestu » Thu Apr 06, 2017 8:53 pm

Hi all,

Having an issue with the gear knob on my car, it's really loose and rotates freely .

Is it glued in place or is there a grub screw to re attach it?

Cheers
Stuart

I've just changed mine on E85, the original wasn't glued, plastic clips inside hold it in place on the stick.

There is an internal female slot in the top of the gear shaft that locks in to the male slot in the gear knob. Just make sure that the knob is fully pressed down on the shaft to ensure it is locked.

The knob on my current one used to rotate - gave it a good whack and it is OK now!

Well I just pulled the knob upward... Popped straight off, the slots look clean so I just pushed it back on but it's still rotating freely :headbang:

Need to get a shorter, more weighty knob anyway. Good time to get a ZHP, F10, storm weeks or whatever. Makes a difference to each drive.mdefinately recommended. :)

Mine turns but found its the shaft that turns, appears to be rubber mounted and can't see any way of fixing it? :x

Yeah I was looking at it again tonight, the whole shaft is turning !

I'll need to strip down the centre console for a better look

Interesting topic, I just bought new gear shift knob, doubt it's a genuine one, it's the silver one for about 12 quid. It slots on but still a bit loose.
Have give it a good clout but no difference. Is it a case of the heavy weight genuine one?
Any feedback much appreciated
