Coupe rear deck creak - can I yank this bit out?

Post by MrPT » Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:56 am

Having eliminated quite a few creaks and rattles over the past few months (door pins and glovebox catch were the main culprits), I'm going nuts over a creak behind the passenger seat that grumbles away on anything but the smoothest surface. It's somewhere underneath one of the two outer trim panels. Holding both down hard stops the creak but I can't pinpoint exactly where it is.

Can I remove this panel just with an upwards tug? Feels like it - there are definitely push-pins on the nearest edge and not more permanent fixtures. RealOEM would suggest so as well.

Just checking on the off chance that anybody knows, for sure. I've got a 2000 mile drive ahead me so it's either this or packing out the whole C-pillar area with spare pants.

I would be interested to know as well as I have had all of the boot trim out except for this part. Couldn't work out how to remove it and didn't want to break any clips

Mine does the same thing, it's a strange one as different road surfaces seem to bring out different rattles :D

I narrowed one to being the sunglasses in the sunglasses holder...

And another seems quieter by reclining the passenger seat a bit further back, so it applies light pressure to the rear bits of plastic.

I'd love to just rip it all out and sound deaden the b'stad thing (it's worked a treat on the inside of the doors!)

I've had that panel out on mine, but trying to think back as to how I did it.

Think B pillar needs to come out (if you break a clip, Realoem is wrong part number wise...ask me how I know!)

Once that is out, you should see a pin clip that you push in to release the front of that panel, or maybe it releases the rubber at the bottom of the B pillar, which lets the panel get removed. Sorry, it was about 4 years ago I did mine.

I solved my rattle by replacing all the clips that hold it in place

Coupe rear deck creak - can I yank this bit out?

Thanks all. In the end I just went for it! The rear of the panel pops out without having to release the end underneath the B pillar. Glad I didn't, now I've read mj2k's post. I've just stuffed a towel underneath the panel now, which has done the job. It's almost certainly the metal clips that are loose and causing the creak/rattle... will try bending them into shape again, and if that doesn't work I'll pick up some replacements.

Must admit, I'm not as fussed about it now as I was before I set off. :driving:

Lovely scenery

If you have cured it with the towel, leave it there - no point pulling things out if you can help it, adds rattles.

Battling with my centre speedo on my F56 at the moment, slowly stuffing felt into it to attempt to prevent the little creak I can hear above everything else, no matter what :headbang:

It's the A838, just west of Tongue.

Coupe rear deck creak - can I yank this bit out?

Post by TR4man » Sat Apr 15, 2017 10:05 pm

It's funny how we get paranoid about squeaks and rattles.

Perhaps because my car is a daily driver I'm more obsessed by routing out any annoying little noises. Drives me mad when my wife is in the car and I'll say something like "can you hear that squeaking?" and she will reply "no".
Sometimes think I'm obsessed by them.
