What Does This Snapped Droplink Do?

Post by EViS » Fri Apr 14, 2017 11:57 am

Just got started to replace the rear wishbone bushes on my e85 2.5 roadster and came across this droplink which is snapped, but connected to a sensor. What does it do? Does it somehow stiffen the suspension when in 'sport' mode? It's so small and flimsy looking.

Does anyone know what this part is actually called / or have a part number to hand as I can't see it on a realoem diagram?

That's the connector for the headlight levelling sensors I believe - quite commonly broken when people go to change springs and forget to undo it first. Though I think it's usually the plastic that breaks so that may have just corroded. You may be able to buy a replacement on eBay - check realoem.com to find the part number. You might also get one from a breakers.

Yup that's the xenon levelling sensor as stated, there's another at the rear. Make sure you don't invert the arm when replacing it.

Sorry, didn't realise you couldn't find it on realoem because I didn't read your post properly

This is the diagram you need : http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=33_1137

I have randomly selected a model so you may want to adjust the model type just in case the parts differ. Pretty likely they don't for something like this though.

So #5 on that diagram (part number: 37146766778)? Same part number as on my model, comes under the rear axle category as opposed to front axle which is where it's located .

They are different shapes, so I'd go for the one that looks the same as your broken one with the bolt holes facing in different directions - number 5

Great, part ordered of the 'bay. £13 delivered :).

Out of interest, how does this affect my xenons at the moment with the broken link?

They probably have a "default" level, usually the lowest if there is no variable input from the sensor.
