Cam cover gasket replaced

Post by alane29 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 7:55 pm

So I was bored over easter and decided to replace the cam cover gasket to stop a small drip of oil onto the manifold .Straightforward enough and took about 4 hours ,the old gasket was in very poor condition and had become hard like plastic rather than flexible rubber .
A word of caution protect the engine internals to prevent bit of plastic from the gasket entering the engine the old gasket came off in loads of small pieces .

Cam cover gasket replaced

4 hours ! does it take that long or were you being ever so fussy. I did the rocker cover on my sons Astra VXR and after cleaning the very fiddly channel that the gasket sits in, then adding a sealant and refitting, it took about 1 1/2 hours.
Good job by the way

Mine came off in bits too although when i came to put the pieces back together to make sure they were all out of the engine I couldnt account for one small piece
Just hope it flew away when i prized it off the 1-2 sparkplug tubes.
Your timing chain looks a bit manky...?
