Amber warning lights

Post by DaveZ4richardson » Sat Apr 22, 2017 6:01 pm

Any advice appreciated but it's looking like a visit to my local BMW dealership already only 3 weeks into my new purchase. Took her out for a spin today and 5 minutes from home these Amber lights came on.

You need to find someone local with diagnostics but mine was just the pressure sensor on the master cylinder.

Going to phone him Monday. See what he wants to do and go from there. He gave me a warranty when I purchased but I have to stump up the cash and claim it back. Should be an interesting conversation.

Is it worth me buying a diagnostic tool off eBay first?

Most likely abs sensor. If you near Gatwick come round and I'll plug diagnositics quickly.

It's likely these lights will come back on. On a quiet road do an emergency stop and they will probably reappear.

Common fault, on mine it was the DSC brake pressure sensor (there are 2 at top left of engine bay), a good independent will be able to tell in 5 mins with diagnostic tool. If it is this part it take a couple of minutes to fit and then 10 mins to bleed the system. This is the part you need, I bought this exact part for my 2004 3.0. Don't buy the cheap chinese imports (E46 part is same a Z4 on a 3.0)

Ignore the warranty, this is simply a fault that is covered by Consumer Rights Act. You've got pictures and just need to report it, up to the seller to resolve with no outlay from you. If they insist on warranty you can either pay under protest or give them opportunity to investigate and fix, if they refuse, head to BMW then send them the bill.

Long term yes, but for now this isn't your problem to solve, sellers obligation for diagnosis and fix. PM me if you want some advice, not legally qualified but I've not lost in the County Court yet!

Thanks everyone. One thing I have noticed today I unlocked the car and it locked straight away again. And once last week when I got in the car it locked straight away. Could it be the battery at fault?

It's a possibility but still worth reporting to the seller. Let them do the donkey work and if it is then DIY if they won't cover it.
