Dreaded Airbag Light

Post by chewabledrapery » Thu Apr 27, 2017 5:24 pm

Hi all,

First post so be gentle!

My airbag light has come on, so i bought a cable and discs from bcables.com and have tried to interrogate the issue using INPA.

When i try to select the "Safety Information Module" I get this error

So i cannot actually see what the fault is, maybe i'm missing some .prg file or something?

I've checked all the fuses, i "think" my battery is OK, my passenger seat doesn't appear to have this 2 wire occupancy pad thing on it, no wires under the seats appear to be unplugged etc.

Clearing error memory doesn't clear the fault, and the only error i see listed in the main error memory is this...

I've messaged bcables but had zero response, I'm not particularly impressed, their ebay feedback suggests that their communication is rubbish and don't offer help if you have problems. (poor show considering they are turning a profit selling on chinese knockoffs and burning copied dvd's)

Any help would be very much appreciated, if i could just get INPA or some other tool to actually tell me more detail i might have a chance of narrowing down the fault.

The big problem here is I've got my MOT coming in a couple of weeks so at the moment i've got it booked in for a diagnostic with an indy bimmer specialist to see if he can point me in the right direction, i'd rather save the wedge and work it out myself but time is limited...

Car is an E85 Z4 2.5si on an 06 plate, post-facelift

Many thanks, Deano. :P

Deano, once you've established a connection to the car with INPA then close INPA and launch DIS.

Once you've opened DIS then enter the car details and establish a connection (use the menus - fairly self explanatory). Then go to diagnostic and run 'quick test'. DIS will then identify all of the modules that it can communicate with one by one and will throw an X next to any that show faults. You can then drill into each fault and diagnose/reset one by one. Set aside an hour to fiddle and learn DIS. It's worth it.

And make sure you have the car on a charger whilst you are at it.

Good luck.
