ABS pump BBA Reman

Post by greg1953 » Mon May 08, 2017 4:43 pm

As mentioned previously I sent my ABS unit to BBA Reman for refurb lasy week, rang them today and was told it had arrived damaged, the ecu part was badly broken, beyond repair as it must have been dropped, they said it was badly packed, wrapped in a carrier bag and loose in a cardboard box....no it wasn't, it was packed tightly with bubble wrap in a strong cardboard box, I suspect someone there had dropped it but there's nothing I can do, they are lying to me but I can't prove it.
Question....can I buy a used unit and have it coded to my car ? BBA say it needs to have the same number on the ECU and they are very rare, local BMW dealer says they can supply a complete new unit for £2090 inc vat or an ECU for £1075, any ideas what to do anyone ?? BBA say the unit must have this number..10.0961-0829.3

I dread to ask this, but did you have insurance on the package?

Also, have you tried any of the salvage companies?

Yes I have insurance but it will take a while and yes there's plenty of units on eBay but will they work ?? that's the question I asked

Ask for it back, are you prepared to argue that you packed it suitably? Do you have their statement of the inadequate packaging and damage in writing?

They are posting it back to me but how can I prove they did it ?
my bloods boiling about this but I'll wait till it gets back to me, telling me it was loosly packed in a carrier bag in the box is such a bloody lie.

You can't unless you took photos prior to sending, hence my question as to your willingness to argue. Do you have their statement in writing? I can't say what your chances of success are but you could try small claims court, online reviews may help.
Did they inform you it was damaged immediately after the package was delivered? Assuming you used a tracked service with a time stamp. If not then that might be your point.

I posted it Thursday 16.30, they said it would be delivered by 12.00 Friday, I rang today to check they had received it, that's when they told me it was damaged, there was full contact info in the package i.e. mobile & home no. plus email.

But no tracking for your delivery? You need to get this in writing. Email them with your summary and ask them to confirm for accuracy would be a start.
It could have been delayed but if it was damaged on arrival or poorly packed I'd expect someone to contact immediately.

Mines at ECU testing at the moment, being rebuilt. I know that they also sell second-hand units if in stock and this would need to be coded.

Give them a call.

On my E39 530i my mechanic sent off the ABS pump to ECU Testing to be repaired (hoping it would be about £130), after a week or so they say it can't be repaired and they sold me a refurbished one for about £500 ish (can't quite remember).

I'd give them a call, yours sounds beyond repair now and I don't fancy your chances with BBA Reman/courir but best of luck.

Thanks for that but rang them and no joy...I've given up and bought a new one £2090, collect it today, still to claim from Post Office but the thing that gets my goat is the lies BBA are saying but I can't prove, so instead of it costing around £300 by the time it's fitted and coded it will be pushing £2300ish.
Plough Motors in Boldon T&W will code it for £20, BMW want £150.

Proof would be on the balance of probabilities, and you'd have to argue your points above regarding timing and not being told. Even stronger argument if you have tracking showing it delivered on the Friday.
For what it costs to take it to court, assuming they have assets, I would take a shot.
