VANOS solenoids

Post by Scooba_Steve » Mon Jul 10, 2017 9:16 am

Looks like the other one is giving up the ghost, replaced the top one a couple of years back and got a slight surge followed by EML on the journey home yesterday.
Also had a bit of an erratic idle at times but the VANOS is the only code showing.

My questions is has anyone used aftermarket solenoids? I don't have an issue using genuine but if one a third of the cost does the same job then I'm willing to give it a try.

I've done that before with the previous one that eventually got replaced, didn't last. I will be giving it a clean but am anticipating it coming back so will be getting one in stock to replace.

I am mostly of the buy once, cry once mentality, but if anyone has used an aftermarket solenoid and had no dramas then I'll give it a go, just because I know BMW have a hefty mark-up.

When did you put them in Chris? My last was 3 years in Dec from BMW.
