sorry rudd.. was on holiday!

the spring clip screws into the parts no3 & 4.
these two get screwed into the engine block first of all, then you can clip the sound gen to it.
if you want, I can take a piccie of it to showyou if it's not clear?

any clips of before, after (with one removed) and after (with both removed)?

Haven't even picked up my Z4 coupe yet, and already have a list of things to look at. (this, possible CSLs, aero skirts)

hey sk93, no worries. i took a look at the diagram again and missed the little plastic fixing block. went back to get it and all is good. :D
i ended up taking the little bit of foam out and it sound the best, just slightly louder when you floor it.

combined with my induction kit and DIY RPI (rpi seems to have made the car a little louser) the car sounds quite nice

Did this today but I only really notice the difference at top end of the revs, the exhaust seems to out do it in the low revs.

I only took one piece of foam out (nearest to cabin). I didn't even need to remove the unit I just popped the pipe out and pulled the foam out 2 second job :D

One thing I did notice is on my engine the sound generator is mounted different to how the guide shows, maybe due to mine having the N52 engine?

Quite likely... if you'd be so kind as to take a few photos and pm them to me, I'd love to add them to this guide

Here you go mate, kinda hard to get the whole system in the picture coz of the anti-roll bar :(

This is all very well, but can you hear yer Mum calling you downstairs for yer tea? I suspect mine was done already as it sounds like a holed exhaust at low speed. Or it could just be a holed exhaust!

Perfect write-up. It was one of the first things I did when I got my Z4 last January! The roar is awesome but the drop in MPG is inevitable :-)

I will probably stick back in one of the two foams as my ears are hurting as well as gas prices have gone up 30% in Greece in the last month :-(

+1 just did this, took 30 seconds to do just taking out the end near the cab. Really impressed with the difference with out going over the top. Mod well worth doing

Has anyone else got a buzzing/rattling noise coming from the diaphragm spring within the Sound Gen? It happens on mine at partial throlle, sub-2k rpm... Really does my nut! I thought it was just becuase i took all the foam out (big grins!) but still happens with the small one.

Might have to try a post-facelift one instead
