Out of curiosity, do any of you actually drive with both pieces of foam removed?
I tried it with both pieces removed and the noise was biblical, actually hurt my ears

Yes - both removed love the sound
Great video btw - what's the circuit and are you driving a 3.0si?

Cheers. Any ideas which one is best to put back in just to reduce it a little.

Yes its a 3.0si around Snetterton a few weeks ago.
It does make a great noise with both pieces out but only from 5K rpm+. I found mine made a horrible boomy noise around 4K, which was just intolerable for my poor ears
Although maybe some clip is loose to cause the booming noise, not sure.
Just the skinnier piece of foam in now and all is good

Does this just make it louder in the cabin?

Yes, just louder in the cabin as it pipes the sound in from the induction system.
I had both pieces out aswell an an aftermarket air filter (induction kit) and it hurt my ears! So much so, I put a piece of foam back in. I then removed the air filter and put the standard one back on as i'm getting too old for a loud daily driver

I removed the foam nearest the cabin and think it's too loud under hard acceleration, it's not a good, deep sound, it kind of hurts your head. I've cut the piece of foam in half and put half back in, now it's too quiet again

I took the foam out of the cabin end today the sound was ok but nothing extraordinary. I then put some back in cutting about an inch off, I then took all the foam out from the engine side, sounds great now, going on a run tomorrow so will see if it's good or not

Hi,
I want to add a sound generator to my 2.5l Z4.
Please can you tell me what parts do I need exactly to fit one? And if I need to replace any existing parts with 3.0 parts?
But is that all or do I need anything else such as a new airbox?
Thanks.

Those look like the correct parts but I wouldn't bother if I were you, it really isn't very good!

Ditto. I've put it all back in. Just a drone more than anything.

Its worth doing if you already have the sound generator and all you're doing it pulling out a bit of sponge. However, I wouldn't go to the trouble of fitting a whole unit.
