Just wanted to give my feedback on the transmission fluid change...

I read this forum as I had a clunky 1st-2nd gear change. decided to change the gearbox oil despite it being lifetime fluid.

I ordered the MTF-LT-2 fluid from the local dealer. £105!! ouch! only comes in 5litres. The gearbox uses 1.2l so i've got 3.8l if anyone wanted to buy it (im based in southend, essex).

Paid a local independent £30 to change it over for me.

It's def made a difference to the gear change. Maybe a 20% improvement.

Sometimes 1st doesn't want to slip in, and have to put it back neutral, lift the clutch, and then try again. normally goes in ok after that.
This doesn't happen often though. maybe 1 in 25 attempts.

2nd gear always clunks in. No problem at speed though, flies through smoothly.

I guess the gearbox/clutch is designed to be driven hard.

anyway, hope this helps.

I've got 2004 3.0i

Sorry also digging up an old post. the guys who look after my car told me also that it was a lifetime oil. there is a magnet part inside the gearbox to catch metal particle that float about.

Is it actually worth doing or is it asking for throuble. The M used a ZF box I think.

Do the transmission and differential plugs have a washer? If so, are they re-usable or would they be replaced when the fluid is changed?

My 3.0 had a manual gearbox, the later spec oil/new oil did help the shifting though.

I just put in 70w80 MTL G-4 into the z less that 1000 miles ago. I see everyone is recommending D4 ATF is the 70w80 ok or should i change it to the D4 as soon as possible?

Bumping an old thread as I fancy changing the oil in my 07 3.0si - what would people recommend getting? This first got asked 10 years ago so not sure if the recommendations have changed!

Transmission fluid change

Well assuming it's manual I had my transmission oil changed in my manual 3.0Si in 2017 and the ex-Sytner Indy put "MTF LT2" in it, which Google suggests is 75W80.

Or you could look at Opie Oils website.
Coupes because stunning!
