This is something i want to do! The M gearchange is the WORST i've exprienced! And thats conparing it to TVR's, Lambo's, Race Cars! lol...Building a good picture here.

Mines now done and has had the standard MTF-LT1 fluid has been changed for some nice new MTF-LT2. My car has done 38,900 miles and is a April 2003 build. The gearbox yellow label states it is filled with MTF-LT1 and is a lifetime fluid that shouldn't be changed.

I wasn't expecting a huge difference to be honest, but blimey its like a different gearbox now. Selecting 1st from a standstill just snicks in firmly but cleanly and the resistance/baulking when shifting gears has been improved no end. 1st - 2nd can still need a little bit of patience to do smoothly but I still have the CDV in place, its better though. The reluctance to select reverse has also gone, hopefully as the oil works its way around it will loosen up even more but so far im very happy indeed at this early stage

Its really made the car much more enjoyable - my advice get it done and use the genuine oil MTF-LT2.

I will put some miles on the car with the new fluid and update any further improvements/degredation.

How much did/will this cost at an indy garage?

I have an Alpina Roadster, says the fluid never needs to be changed, but seems this is not entirely true! I changed the trans fluid on my last car 3 times and it kept it fresh, which is why I was interested in doing the job

How much fluid did it take to fill? I figure I'm gonna use MTF LT-2.

I've been searching near and far and cant find any how to for changing the fluid. I'm assuming the yellow circled plug is the drain and the blue is the fill plug, but how do you actually get the fluid into the box? I've heard of needing some kind of pump, and the car has to be level. Also, have any of you added any additives? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

One thing to do is to make sure the filler bolt comes off before you empty the oil out!

On my MR2 i used to use a length of 0.5" tubing and a funnel and fill from the top of the engine bay, once I'd poked the tube into the fill area. If you can get the car on ramps you may be able to fill direct, not sure though as I've not got on my hands and knees yet. Not sure about pumps but sure they'd work...

Yes, the lower one (in yellow) is the drain plug.

As leon says, make SURE you can loosen the fill plug before you start draining.

As for getting the new fluid in the transmission, you will need a pump or some other way to get it in... There are several types and makes.

No additives. Just straight fluid out of the bottle. Fill until you get fluid out of the fill hole.

has anyone used Castrol SMX S 75w-85?

It's readily available in the UK in units of 1litre

However, word from Opieoils.co.uk is Fuchs Titan Sintofluid SAE 75w-80 is stock oil.

Any one have any idea/info on what this should cost,in the uk/by an independant garage,using either redln or bmw stuff?

Can someone advise on how much oil i'll need? I have a 2005 3.0.

Also...... while i'm at it, what about the differential? What oil should i use? and how much to order?
