Fitting head unit...HELP!

Post by Rudd » Wed Jun 03, 2009 1:34 pm

Hey, I had a spare day today so I thought id fit a different head unit into the car, I bought what I was told was all the right bits. The facia is a bit fiddly but it should go in, the main problem is when I come to fit the harness adapter.

My business CD player came out in about 5 minutes using a couple of forks to get the vents out but when I took the leads out of the back of the head unit they wouldn’t fit into the new harness adapter.

I’ve taken a couple of pictures, as you can see on the first picture some of the leads are fixed into the large unit and the others into smaller blocks. They seem to be spade connectors and the harness adapter uses stud like fittings.

It seems obvious that I have bought the wrong harness adapter or have people come across this before? If so any solutions?
Or have you got the part number for the correct harness adapter and/or can dealers supply them?
Cheers

Hi,

I visited a car shop today in search for the correct lead and after discussing with the guy who claimed

“Well you know these FRENCH cars are pretty much put together with whatever is on hand so that is why it’s different”

I decided to go somewhere else. An audio specialist in Newcastle sorted me out with the correct one. My life is not all new audio bliss; the fascia adapter I bought doesn’t seem to like the size of a normal head unit and wants something smaller?? I’m just going to mod it a little and sort it out and if that doesn’t work its hammer time! Lol :P

Looks like your slowly getting sorted, its amazing how many store owners are numpty's and give out duff info.

Which HU did you decide on?

The fascia is fiddly but should fit Ok, or at least mine does.

Hey, it’s all sorted for now. I’ve just dropped a head unit from my other car into it for the minute until I find the right one. The only problem left now is the aerial adapter which is different to the norm I’m going to pick one up and then just drop it in.

I’m not that bothered about the radio I mostly listen to my own music.

autoleads facia I bought is pure pants doesnt even fit properly without the head unit in it. Looks like a bit of ply in order here and make one that fits tidy like.
