the caps don't make aux appear.. that's the cross channel resistance :P (by way of a resister)
the caps make a difference in which frequencies will be passed through, that's all

theorhetically, you can remove them entirely, but youd want around 1mf to get decent quality sound impo

It's definitely not a lack of quality, the subs behind the seats are simply not producing anything.

Baring in mind the cheap ebay cable I purchased, do you think its worth spending £50 on something like this?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BMW-Genuine-In- ... B000P9Y5I4

The genuine cable from BMW?

Or is it because I have the business CD player but the upgraded speaker kit that means anything I do is going to be incredibly tricky as its an odd coupling?

if you're ok with a soldering iron.. you could have a stab at making your own? it'll cost waaaay less than that.

alternatively, give your local stealer a ring first, as its around that price from them...

I bought a cheap aux in off Amazon, came as a plain cable with no resistor or capacitors in it, bought some from Maplin and installed in cable and works perfect. Just make sure you use decoupling capacitors.

I've just gone to fit one of the recommended aux cables, turns out my car already had one fitted and tucked away being some trim, worth pulling your head unit out and checking before ordering one.

Does yours have the resister? Is it installed 100% correctly? my one could go in 2 different ways.

I do have an issue though, mine is no where as loud as a CD. To the point I can barely hear it with the top down. It's clear, and sounds fine, just not loud enough. Is this a iPhone limitation?

Hi Sam , I don't even know what the resistor looks like . I have installed it properly and I've installed one on my last Zed with no problems . Tried both cables and no difference , what does one of these cables look like with a resistor ?

The one I got, had a little inline PCB with the resistor on it, then covered in shrink wrap, got anything like that? Similar to this:

I was told if it didn't have one, the AUX won't appear. The resistor bridges something so the stereo can 'see' an AUX is connected.

Mine isn't like that , the ones I have are the plug into the back of the radio with a cable to a jack end and a female end . Thanks for the pic

It should have a small shrink wrapped pcb in line, if it's just plug to jack it won't work.
