Fitting 3rd brake light

Post by sc2202 » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:22 pm

I'm looking to replace my third brake light on my 2003 Z4 and just wanted to know if anyone else had replaced theirs themselves and in turn if it was quite straight forward to do. I'd much rather fit it myself than take it into a garage if it's quite easy to do?

yep done mine :D

quite simply really - the only tricky part is getting to the 3 nuts holding it on as they are quite deeply recessed, even so I managed without a socket set or anything....

just be careful when refitting the new one to not do the nuts up too tight otherwise you will end up cracking it.

very easy but buy yourself a long socket to remove the nuts cant remember if its 8 or 10 mm but makes the job so much easier

And be carefull of the washers, dont do what i did and let it slip in between the pressed metal, its a pain to get out, you will se what I mean when you have the boot open, put a cloth there just in case to stop it.

I just replaced mine. I didn't have any deep sockets. I didn't know what size, so I bought an entire set.

The size is a 10mm, so you don't have to buy a whole set.
