Peak District / Oopnurthring

Post by johnnymarrsbarres » Sun Dec 29, 2013 12:04 pm

Woke up early this morning, so decided to have a noon around the Peak District on the Oopnurthring route. Aside from the Snake Pass (which has turned into a bit of a 'Sunday Driver' tourist trap these days) I was pretty much the only car on the road. Fantastic drive over Woodhead Pass.

I took a few photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonwebbo ... 146037835/

Is that sump worrying hump still there on the snake?
Great roads when it's quiet. Not so much on a Monday morning..

Didn't notice any particularly bad humps on the Snake, but on the end of Woodhead Road at the Glossop side, for some whacky reason they've put a load of speed bumps. I didn't half give the brakes a thorough testing when I saw the first one :driving:

Taz - didn't get to Saddleworth, but the road from Greenfield to Holmfirth is a beaut - used to live in Greenfield, so went over there regularly.

You must have pretty much driven past my house....I live overlooking the 2nd reservoir on the Woodhead pass..

I did the "triangle" myself.....Woodhead,Strines and back down the snakepass....

The speedhumps at the bottom of woodhead road as it approaches Glossop town centre have been there for quite some time...I believe it was to slow people down as you approach the 3 road junction...

Love the roads round there. If you turn off the woodhead towards glossop, between the two reservoirs and past the sailing club, that's a fantastic road.
Ditto if you turn off towards Holmfirth up Holme Moss.

I had a few bottom outs when forgetting about this hump, including one that broke the lower engine bracket on a golf TDI.

Looks liek they have smoothed it out now.
